I’ve been trying to find the differences between the
Rogers HTC Dream compared to the Google branded G1

in terms of Firmware. I see that there has already been a similar question posted, I’m just wondering if you have any updates

My biggest concern is weather to root it. or keep it.
Still not sure what Rogers did to this wonderful Open Source phone.

Felicity,

From the Home screen, hit Menu then Settings. Go to Applications, then Manage Applications. Locate Home and go to the Application Info screen. There, under the “Launch by default” heading, you should be able to click the button labeled “Clear Defaults” to reset the default selection. Hit the Home button, and you should be presented with the familiar choose dialog where you can set aHome as default.

easiest but more aggrivating way to fix this is to uninstall ahome then reinstall. thatd b the easiest way

I have Ahome on my Android and accidentally made my default home the old one, not Ahome….anyone know how I can get Ahome to be my default when it is not asking anymore, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall and it still does not work!!

Thanks for answering regarding the Australian Paid Apps. If you could keep asking Google reps about Paid Apps for different markets around the world (including Australia) this would be awesome, personally its starting to grate on me with a multitude of factors with Optus(Australian Carrier) as I have not rooted my phone or updated the build, so at this stage as an Australian Android user i`m still waiting for Paid Apps and Cupcake, and our carrier(optus) is less than useless in passing on info about it, at this stage, i`m waiting to see if the Palm Pre is going to come out internationally and though I love the Android idea, I’m thinking of jumping ship. Hello,
Actually i have more than a question sorry if the message is a bit long.
I have a new HTC Magic from Vodafone Spain since last week.
I was thinking about getting an iphone but i read in the blog of Paolo Sammicheli that he installed ubuntu under android in a T-Mobile G1 and that make me take the decision for the HTC Magic. The reason is that i have installed Mythbuntu in my home as my main media center and i hope to install a mythtv-frontend in the Magic. so the first question is:

Is there any port or is being developing any of Mythtv-frontend for android?

Anyway i can install ubuntu or debian and then install the mythtv-frontend package, but as i’ve read in the forums it’s needed to install the Jesus Freke firm. here is the second question:

Does anybody installed this mod in a HTC Magic, is it possible? I guess reading the procedures that the lack of fisical keyboard may be a problem, isn’t it?

You are correct – the antenna chip inside the Rogers HTC phones work on GPRS/EDGE/HSPA 850/1900mhz. Therefore, if AT&T are using the same frequency on their 3G network, you will be able to use the Rogers G1 on the AT&T network.

Correct, the G1 will work on AT&T’s network but not with 3G.

People are in the process of trying to hack the US G1 antenna chip and load the Rogers firmware. I have not seen confirmation this is working yet. The antenna chip might be different on the Rogers and T-Mobile phones.

We should know more in the coming days.
