You don’t have to root the phone to get the keyboard. This is for the standard keyboard, not the one pictured in this post.

1) Download “AppsInstaller” from the market.
2) Google “htc_ime.apk” (I dl’d mine from mediafire which should be the first result)
3) Copy “htc_ime.apk” to your sd card.
4) Run “AppsInstaller” and select “htc_ime”.
5) Reboot your phone.

I’ve been loving my G1 for over a week now here in Canada. I am still trying to get one question answered: is there a way to remove the apps Rogers has installed on the phone? They are little red icons for Home, My Account, Ringbacks etc that bring you to the Rogers site – simply annoying and taking up space. If anyone can tell me of a way to remove them I’d appreciate it! (ps. the Manage Applications page won’t let you uninstall it, just like basic Android firmware/kernel etc can’t be)

Hey I’ve been patiently waiting for my HTC Dream White to be shipped to me, Not much information has been given out, my friend at rogers wireless told me that he sold one and had it returned for bad reception, and dropped calls, I’m hoping that it was just a bad unit, Any other Rogers based customers in Toronto experienced this issue with the HTC Dream?
