Cellular South is the first (and only) regional carrier in the United States to announce support for Android phones. Last month they announced they would offer the redesigned HTC Hero and now we have a price point to report.
Starting today, customers can pre-order the HTC Hero from Cellular South for only $99.99 (after $50 mail-in rebate). This in an agressive price considering Sprint is offering the same phone for $179 (after $100 mail-in rebate).
Cellular South is also announcing their new Smartphone Unlimited Plan, which includes unlimited everything for $79.99 a month. Once again this is cheaper than Sprint who offers a similar unlimited plan for $99.99 a month. Cellular South customers can also choose a cheaper $49 smartphone plan which includes 500 minutes plus unlimited web and text.
Mississippi currently ranks 40 (out of 50 states) in our traffic reports, but I expect they will be making a surge once Cellular South launches this phone. We have yet to receive an official release date, but I would expect it sometime after the Sprint Hero launch (October 11, 2009).
