I see what you're saying however id argue that android seperates the complex from the simple quite well, for example my mother recently got the HTC Hero and has been quite content with it, fiddling with the usual parts people fiddle with and for the first time not needing my help to get it to do what she wants. I can't comment on verizon's advertising campaign as im in the UK. cant wait to see this phone over here and get my grubby hands on it.

Nice, but the processor is to small. 600 MHz is the same that HTC hero have and that is not enought

Wow, I would suggest that if a 600MHz processor is NOT enough for a hand held or embedded device than you are definitely NOT running the correct operating system for the platform.

Have been running a Nokia N800 happily for over two years now, it only has a 400Mhz processor and I do pretty much everything I need to do thanks to Maemo Linux. Linux will run on much slower processors than this and with much less memory.

So if you are not happy with 600Mhz, you are NOT using the correct OS for the platform. The problem is very easy to solve. If the hardware platform will not let you install one or more Linux distros on it, do not purchase that hardware.

I'm pulling for Android but still worried about what bullcrp Verizon is going pull to screw this up. Boy Genius is reporting that Amazon store was not accessible via WiFi. I wouldn't put it past Verizon to pick and choose which apps can use their network and which apps can't. Google recently rolled out the ability for developers to allow their apps on certain carriers and eliminate them from others...so did carriers get the same options. I'm betting they did. It's know that T-Mobile doesn't all some apps on it's network. Of course, you can side-load them from elsewhere. I'm just concerned because Verizon will have to SHOW the world they will embrace openness - not just say it. Their past actions have not shown any remnants of openness.

I love Android but the approach that Verizon is taking with their ad campaign is troubling with Boy Genius reporting that most non-tech folks didn't even know what phone Verizon was poking fun at. Widespread adoption = simple, quickly learned UI and phone functions. Android by itself is not simple enough for the non-technical person to pick up and learn quickly. It's a dream for the technical person who wants to customize until the cows come home - me :) for instance. That's why Apple has succeeded so greatly. They've walked a very delicate line between technical overload and user friendliness. I'm hoping that Android can win the hearts of the masses (aka non-technical folks). But, I think it's going to take a while - perhaps when they think about their dumbphone strategy. I see alot of Droids being returned because there are too many options for the normal user and it's not as fun to use as - dare I say it - an iPhone.

Just for the record. I'm a huge Android fan but as a tech marketing guy, I'm not seeing the right steps taken to assure mass adoption. Verizon's approach is targeting the "geek" folks. Those guys are already sold - like me. You need to target the masses who don't even know or care what an iPhone iDoesn't do.

I'm looking at this in comparison to the Storm 2. The only thing I don't see here that Storm 2 has is a clicky screen. Does the DROID have a clickable touchscreen, or just a touchscreen? If it does, I'm getting this instead of a Storm 2. No debate. If not, I've still got to weigh my options.

The Sholes features a TI OMAP 3430 which is based on the ARM Cortex A8. The Hero features an ARM11 based processor. The A8 is much faster regardless of actual clock speed.
