I had some things to do, so it was about 3 pm before I got there. Plenty of phones, no wait for me. (Of course I'd come in and bumped other parts of my plan two days before with the store manager, and she was HAPPY to see me.) Only flies in the ointment were:
(1) That they were out of docks. Mine arrived by Fedex by 4 pm on Tuesday.
(2) The wired boom headset I got turned out to be defective. (Not a first for either VZW or Cingular I used before...)
(3) They couldn't get my contacts off my XV6700 (again). This was the second time that I'd had them try. The first was earlier when I bumped the plan. I decided to carry two handsets, a Smart Phone for personal (the XV6700 then the Droid) so when I got the second handset (an En V := LG9100) that one didn't take the transfer either. I might have stayed with the 6700 longer, but the usb port on it is shot, won't do data and won't take a charge. Have to charge my "PDA" now, as for some time, by swapping batteries thru the cradle. All in all, it took about 90 minutes, while they tried to get the plan straight and transfer the contacts.

High ETF is to prevent flipping smart phones on ebay. Fee decreases by $10 for every month you're signed up.

Talk to your Verizon rep about this. Mine has set up my account so that she always does the mail-in rebate for me. Tomorrow my price is $99. ($299 - $100 rebate - $100 New Every Two)

From what I understand the ETF fee increase only applies if you get a new smartphone after Nov 15th. If you currently have a smartphone (or regular phone) it does not apply to you until you upgrade.

In any case it is a STUPID move on Verizon's part. This will just drive people away from their service. The other carriers will be loving this. Foolish move Verizon ... foolish.

If you buy it on the Verizon website the rebate is instant as well. It will come from their warehouse so it is less likely to run out. You get it for $199 but any oddities you have you won't be able to work out like if you contract isn't quite up or you are using the primary user's early upgrade but actually putting the phone on a secondary account or anything weird like that you would have to go to the store or call in.

$350 is outrageous for ETF!! I switch phones so often that this is a deal breaker for me.

Don't worry there will be plenty for everyone as nobody is lining up except us geeks. This really isn't "exciting" for anyone except geeks. Apple had soccer moms lining up for crying out loud!

Droid will be discounted by another $50 after 30 days because it's not a mass market device. Verizon is even targeting all their ads at geeks. Robots, Stealth bombers, asteroids? Seems pretty stupid to me. They are ignoring the mass market that they need to adopt this.

My wife is currently a Verizon customer not under contract. She has no desire to get a smartphone.
I will be a new Verizon customer when I switch service providers and purchase the Droid.

Is is possible for us to do a family plan so that we share the minutes and just tack on the extra $30 for the Droid's data plan? If so which Nationwide family plan will we need to get (Basic, Select, Connect, or Premium?)

My corporate owned Verizon store (outside of Chicago) told me that they were only shipped 50 units for Friday's launch. If they are gone you can be added to a list and they will order you one and mail it to your house. Suspect a 7 day waiting period for mailing it. Again, that was the corporate owned Verizon store outside of Chicago.

**Note

Best Buy does the mail in rebate for you, so it will be $199 at the store.
