Cellular South to offer Android 2.1 update for HTC Hero

Some wireless carriers have struggled with Android updates, so it is always nice to report when a new update is announced. Cellular South has confirmed that their HTC Hero will be getting the Android 2.1 update in the first half of 2010.

This announcement is not a huge surprise considering the Cellular South Hero is a clone of the Sprint Hero, which is also getting the update in the same time frame. However, it is nice to see the regional carrier publicly announce their plans (as we are still waiting on some major carriers like T-Mobile to hand out the info on their G1 and myTouch 3G).

We have heard that the HTC Hero is selling well for Cellular South, so hopefully we will see the Mississippi-based carrier line up some more Android devices for 2010.
