Well something is going on. I live in PA near Philly and I have been on the EDGE network at home and then just two weeks ago my 3G indicator popped up. I used Speedtest.net from the Android Market to test my speeds. A big difference from the two networks for sure.

I also had a friend who just bought the Droid and we compared our test speeds using the same app. My MyTouch results measured 1.01Mbps while the Droid measured 2.1Mbps. We tested each other side by side at the same place for comparison.

If T-Mobile does follow through with these claims, I think I will stay with with them as I have been frustrated trailing behind the other carriers. I hope the claims are true in 2010.

well, this is whats on the wikipedia 3G page:

"Data rates:
ITU has not provided a clear definition of the data rate users can expect from 3G equipment or providers. Thus users sold 3G service may not be able to point to a standard and say that the rates it specifies are not being met. While stating in commentary that "it is expected that IMT-2000 will provide higher transmission rates: a minimum data rate of 2 Mbit/s for stationary or walking users, and 348 kbit/s in a moving vehicle,"[13] the ITU does not actually clearly specify minimum or average rates or what modes of the interfaces qualify as 3G, so various rates are sold as 3G intended to meet customers expectations of broadband data."

I wish I could do business like that..."yes mam, i can do that job for you, but i cant be sure i will actually do the job i say i can do, nor can you complain about it, because i dont really have to do the job you want me to do....but you must still pay me as though i did the job you wanted me to do"

......silly, i know

I was talking to someone from tmo about a month back who was telling me about all the upgrades to the network and such that they are doing. The speeds and such that are possible and are coming to tmo's network are sounding awesome and is actually one of the reasons I've stayed with tmo (that guy told me a lot lol probably more then he should have) since I was seriously considering switching to another carrier/android device.

I have to say I'm seriously impressed at tmo's aggressive actions with both upgrading the network and their support of the Android platform/market in general.
