Nook to receive its first software update

As some of you guys know, we got a Nook and I think it is one of the coolest gadgets I’ve ever owned. I’m a huge Android nut and I’ve never used a Kindle (so my opinion is biased), but the Nook has exceeded all my expectations.

When I look at my Nook, I see huge potential because it is powered by Android. Either Barnes & Noble will open up the device and allow devs to release applications for it or hackers will root the device and create their own black market for apps. I can already picture using a web browser, RSS reader, and Gmail from my Nook.

According to nookDevs, it sounds like the first software update (of many) is on its way. They have several reports that claim Barnes & Noble could be pushing out the first update this weekend. We expect the update to be minor and focus on bug fixes since the device just came out this week.

Stay tuned for our full review of the first, Android-powered electronic reader. I wanted to spend a couple more days with the device before posting my final judgment. Leave a comment if you have any questions and I will try to address them.

I agree, I would love for it to show RSS feeds. I’m addicted to Google reader, I’d be interested in a portable RSS reader.

Aaaannd…the weekend has come and gone, and no update to be seen. So we wait. Just like we waited for the delayed release. Just like we wait for it to load books. Just like we wait for the interface to respond. See a trend here?

mine is on the way before xmas,
ordered it back in Nov with the $10 bonus gift card per $100 puchased
    $30 off covered the tax

B&N tech could be better. compare the sites amazon to BN

so i guess BNs decision to go with android and the
FREE market , will push the nook to its full potential

got my screw driver ready for rooting

I bought a Nook for the Wife, and we got it X-Mas Eve. She loves it and cant put it down. It does have the update and does not lag as bad as I have heard. It does however still have some bugs. Book sometimes does not open where left off, seems to freeze sometimes. I had a book open with number on the bottom and heading at the top with no text. For now a reboot has fixed ever problem. It is by no means not usable but I still hope to see updates soon
