We took a few days off to enjoy the Christmas holiday with our family, but Flurry was hard at work collecting mobile application analytics.
Flurry compiled all their stats to see how customers behaved on Christmas versus a typical Friday. The Motorola Droid only accounts for about 20% of all Android phones, but nearly half of the app downloads on Christmas day were registered to the device. For whatever reasons, Droid users were the most compelled to try out a new app or game this holiday season.
Other holiday findings from Flurry included:
- Android Market Growth increased by over 20% in December over November.
- Droid application downloads increased by 93% over previous Fridays in December.
- Droid accounted for 48% of download volume across the leading Android handsets (Droid, myTouch 3G, G1 and HTC Hero).

Of course the G1 comes in last! Our tiny ROM’s are already full. We gots no room for the latest apps!!
I guess more people got a Droid, instead of a G1, myTouch or Hero.
I’d venture a guess that it is directly related to the number of gifted phones this Christmas and not anything to do with Droid itself. I’d just say that more Droid devices were given as gifts than other devices.
“… For whatever reasons, Droid users were the most compelled to try out a new app or game this holiday season…”
Seriously?
Its because they got the phone for Christmas!
That’s a meaningless grid. Show us the same info for total ownership in 6 months. Downloads on a given day are useless.
*cough*MOMENT*cough*
Honestly, I think it’s the Keyboard and 2.0 combo. doesent the Droid come with at 16 Gig memory card. I am still kind of pissed that NESOID and GENESOID dont work on mytouch !
I never run out of space thanks to cyanonegn. I have over 200 apps and my g1 still smooth as silk. Rooting has big advantages, but I guess is “not for everyone”
This is indicative of nothing. All the other phones have been out for a while now and users have pretty much downloaded most of whatever they wanted by now, Droid is new, users just figuring out what it can do and how to use it, and as others have stated, it’s most likely the phone given for gifts this christmas. This whole thing is essentially just Droid propaganda.
