I tried to go and check for updates and it says that my Droid is up-to-date. Is this something that will just come to us, or do we have a choice of getting it a little sooner?

  • tjizzle

Come on man… tmobile is getting left behind. When is the mytouch getting updated?

  • http://Website Kuvee

you should do a software check because it does have the update for the mytouch and g1. go to settings, phone status, system updates to update.

I can’t speak to how VZW works it, but on T-Mo the “check for updates” all ways says you’re up to date when they are pushing an OTA update.

The check for updates has worked for me when I reverted to previous versions of Android after unrooting my G1.

  • Fidget253

hes not fake, verizon pushed the update out to 1000 phones today, tonight there pushing it out to 9000 more phones as a test, then if no major issues arise, starting Oct 11 at 12am, 200,000 updates will be pushed out daily until everyone is updated

The check for updates only works when you select update later when an ota makes it to your phone

I assume he means December 11, not Oct. My Droid also tells me that it is up to date even though it is still 2.0

How is Tmobile getting left behind? Read the list closely: GPS automatically exits the notification pane? Sms and Mms to a 7 digit addresses? Improved autofocus and transition times? Large portion of it is stuff we G1 and MyTouch owners already have…

  • pepilly

I got the update on my Droid as well. Miss the old unlock slider

For those who got the update, did you do anything? I keep going to search for new updates and it keeps telling me my phone is up to date.

@max fadia…it is real. android 2.0.1 was being pushed to a limited number of phones yesterday..and the rest of the updates are supposed to continue on the 11th. at least that’s how i understood it

All of you new Droid users are ignorant of how Android OTA updates work….so i wont flame.

Basically not everyone gets the update at the same time. A Select/Random batch of phones always gets the update first.

All phones will report to be up to date, when they DO NOT have the latest version. The updates are initially rolled out in WAVES.

Please do some research before you go calling everything a fake because your phone wasn’t randomly selected.

It upsets me that noobs act like theyknow everything and put everything android down because they know nothing about it..but they have the money for the droid while were still holdiing on to G1′s and MT3G’S great phones but of course not the newest.

after using the 2.0.1 update for a little bit, it is AMAZING, responce is much better, the phone works 10 times faster in general. Changing from the home screens to the other screen has the responsiveness that the iphone has. This phone is truely the best now

I love the Droid. By far the best phone I’ve ever used. This phone goes to 11. I just updated to 2.0.1 (manually, you can google how to do this). There is one giant flaw that the Droid has though, and it appears that this updated did not fix the flaw. The flaw is not being able to add email signatures. There is a way to do a signature in the Gmail app, but not in the regular mail app where you would have Exchange or multiple email accounts. I primarily use my Exchange email with work, and so not having email signatures is a major issue, and a major loss on free advertising for Motorola, Verizon, & Google (think about how many emails you get that say, “sent from my blackberry (or iphone).” I know there are posts about this on the web, but I figured I’d put it somewhere else so hopefully someone at Google will correct this, quickly.

    • http://Website Jennifer

I can’t believe this is still an issue or that no work-around app has been developed. This is a fairly big issue to me. LOVE the Droid, but I don’t need every person to whom I respond to know I’m out of the office when I reply.

I’m still waiting for the update for my new Motorola Droid of which I recently just received…

Very very awesome. Music player widget is also update. Very nice. I’m glad to see that Google actually listens to its users (as opposed to iphone updates coming so slowly)

I was sleeping when I woke up just now and noticed I had a software update. Kinda feel special being one of the first few. It took about 30 seconds for the whole update to go thru. I’ve only gotten updated for 8 seconds before I started missing my unlock slider and just the overall interface looks different. My youtube widget even looks a lot bigger. I didn’t really have too much issue with the bugs most people were experiencing so would there be a way to revert back to the previous OS if someone decides its not working for them?

  • http://Website Patrick

So I just got it, and I can browse any app while on the phone. Suck it Idont commercials.

I installed the 2.0.1 update last night (12/10) via OTA in Atlanta. Around 12:15am a popup appeared informing me it was available and prompting for permission to install.

The only obvious UI change was that the slide to unlock is now a line instead a curve. The system definitely seems snappier now.

  • http://Website JPGuy

First thing I noticed after the upgrade was the on-screen clock and date on the “unlock pattern” screen. They were left justified (centered before) and had a different font face. Also new was the Power Control bar (widget) on my main screen. More grey, as opposed to the previous white look (perhaps to conserve some battery?).

One negative thing I noticed is the alarm. When it goes off, there is no place to snooze or disable. Previous to the update, it showed up right up front (over the “unlock pattern” screen). Now, you have to drag it down from the top, and possibly unlock the pattern first before doing so. (Didn’t test pulling down from the top without unlocking phone). Very inconvenient.

Is anyone having problems with their update? I was syncing my phone numbers from my facebook contacts and after updating they have disappeared! I checked my settings and they are the same. Its syncs names and emails, but not phone numbers.

Just did the update and my work email (exchange server) stopped working immediately. I get an error message and then get the option to force close. Gmail works fine, but if work email isn’t going to work, I can’t use this phone. Bummer.

    • http://Website oj

This problem persisted, so I plunked down the 20 bucks for the TouchDown app. Well worth the money.

  • http://Website nytefytr

Got the OTAupdate on the 10th – battery life is definitely improved. I haven’t charged the phone yet with lots of apps running including push email, driving in and out of fringe coverage areas, etc. Call audio quality also improved, especially with the speaker – before the upgrade, callers would complain that I wasn’t coming through as clearly when using the speaker. The touchscreen response has been improved, as is the response of the screens and apps.
