Sony Ericsson to launch Android app store

App stores seem to be all the rage for handset makers nowadays. We recently brought you an exclusive preview of the Motorola SHOP4APPS and today we learn Sony Ericsson will be accepting Android apps for their PlayNow store.

Sony Ericsson has yet to launch their first Android phone (Xperia X10), but developers can now submit their applications for review. Submission is free of charge and developers receive a 70% share of net revenue.

The expected release date of the Xperia X10 is Q1 2010, so developers should get ready if they want their apps to be listed at launch. There is a chance Sony Ericsson might feature your app on their YouTube account (see below) so visit their submission page if you are interested.

Check out the PlayNow online store for a preview of what is to come.

Sony Ericsson’s popular one-stop content store, PlayNowâ„¢, will feature Android applications and games, and we invite developers to submit Android content right away!

I don’t know why you say Sony Ericsson will launch an Android App Store, they just will sell applications through their existing store PlayNow.

It’s starting to become a bit difficult keeping up with all the supposed markets that are coming out. If that’s the submission process for this one then I think it won’t be nearly as used by developers because that’s just tedious.

AT&T mainly fails iPhone users. Other phones work fine, it seems.
I sometimes need data too, and AT&T can be slow with that, but I’m often on my laptop anyway. Although if serious data usage is necessary for you, that may be another story if speed is your concern.

[...] Sony Ericsson is excited about the launch of the XPERIA X10 – their first Android device – and has announced that developers can now submit Android applications to their online app and media store, PlayNow. Coders will receive 70% of net revenue. The X10 is likely to launch both on T-Mobile and AT&T within the next month or two, so devs might want to get moving if they want their wares to be seen from the get go. With the holidays upon us, SE has decided to capitalize on current hype by sponsoring an app contest and with a few fun demos of apps running on the X10. I think Santa might need a new beard…and perhaps a bit less caffeine. If you are reading this on the DroidDog home page, click on through for a second video: Via Android and Me [...]
