T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender LE now available while quantities last

Starting today, the myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition is now available while quantities last. The collector’s item phone will be sold in select T-Mobile retail stores and online at T-MobileMyTouch.com. This phone is based off the original myTouch 3G with some new additions like a 3.5 mm headset jack, 16 GB microSD card, and preloaded software.

The myTouch Fender will retail for $179 with a 2yr contract or $449 if purchased alone.

Early reports suggested the myTouch Fender was a 32A version of the HTC Magic, but those were wrong. The 32A version featured 288 MB of RAM and we have now confirmed that the Fender phone has 192 MB of RAM (same as original myTouch 3G).

Update: Users are reporting the myTouch Fender phone does indeed have 288 MB of RAM. T-Mobile posted the wrong specs on their own website.

TmoNews is reporting that this new HTC Magic with the 3.5 mm headset jack will replace the original myTouch 3G and go on sale February 10, 2010.

T-Mobile also confirmed that the myTouch Fender ships with Android 1.6, but it will be upgraded to Android 2.1 in the spring.

If you are a new customer to T-Mobile, we would suggest opting for the Nexus One which can be purchased for the same price with a 2yr contract. You would have to be a huge Fender fan to get this phone, when T-Mobile sells similar Android phones for $99 (Motorola CLIQ).

The problem, at least with the fender, we don’t have to change our plan, or am I missing something? With the Nexus, I must change my current plan, to something lower. Plus I don’t qualify for an upgrade.

were did you get confirmation that the Fender edition only has 192MB RAM? Anyway, I guess that’s good news for us original MT3G owners…since the Fender edition is getting 2.1, surely that means we’ll be getting the 2.1 update as well.

This DOES have 288 mb ram/32a. I just walked into a store and rebooted one in fastboot. Fastboot doesn’t lie.

This thing could probably have a limited quantity of 10 and still not sell out.

This is what they have or haven’t been telling us. The original mytouch 3G and G1 will not be getting 2.X we will be stuck on 1.6 or use custom roms. I have spoke to a lot of people and they all say there is a problem with the original hardware and new OS. An extra 100mb of ram can go along way. Also they say the new mytouch will be updated but will not comment on the old one. Just think about it.

Yay headphone jack! The RAM is a nice ugprade too.

I have problems with Cyanogen’s latest 2.X build on my G1 because of the lack of RAM. If I leave the browser, even just to go to the home screen and turn on wifi, it loses where I was.
