Motorola Milestone now available on Canada’s largest HSPA+ network

Canadian Android fans can purchase their first Android 2.0 phone now that the Motorola Milestone (aka Droid) is on sale with TELUS. Customers can pick up the device for $199 with 3 year agreement or pay $599 for full price.

Telus just launched their HSPA+ network in November which now covers 93% of the Canadian population. The network offers theoretical peak download speeds of 21.6 Mbps, but a device like the Droid (HSPA 7.2) will see typical speeds that range from 4-6 Mbps (download) and 2-4 Mbps (upload). This is the same type of network that T-Mobile USA will launch in mid 2010 so I’m a little jealous Canada gets these blazing fast mobile speeds first.

If you live in Canada and pick this phone up, let us know how it performs on the Telus 3G+ network.

The problem I heard is that since they don’t have a GSM network, the phone loses connectivity instead of dropping to EDGE like with most companies.

I’m on Rogers and considering paying full price for it and unlock it.

Yes, it will be interesting to see whether the Canadian Milestone suffers from the same audio-playing flaw as the European version (you can’t listen to music on the move without the sound skipping)
