DELAYOROLA: “No ETA on 2.1 for Droid. Thanks for your patience!”

I think the headline says it all. We already beat this story into the ground, so I will let Motorola do the talking. This status update about the Android 2.1 OTA update for the Droid comes via Facebook.

We know you guys are anxiously awaiting the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.1. Ultimately, we want to ensure you have the best possible experience on your device; as a result, the rollout is taking longer than expected. Though we don’t have the new deployment date to share just yet, we do promise we are working to get you updated information and will relay it as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. We appreciate it!Motorolavia Facebok

When someone discovers the official URL to download the OTA update, we will post it with instructions to perform a manual update.

MOTONOETA.

Seriously, some may be complaining because moto hasn’t released it yet. But we’re still stuck with 1.6 (I know I can root) and at least moto is saying SOMETHING about it. I could wait as long as I want if tmo says SOMETHING about 2.x

I rooted recently to see what 2.1 was and if it was worth it and believe me it is awesome. I know they want it right but other Droid varients have 2.1 so why no US love. Just a quick vent.

i think MOTO doesnt want to do this, there have to be something in the way, am i wrong?

Of course they don’t want to do it, but they should iron out issues before announcing the arrival multiple times. When they say 2.1 is ready and coming soon, they should already know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it will work.

Don’t announce dates you aren’t sure you can hit. Seems pretty simple.

Heres what you do. Root you Droid and get the Ultimate Droid 7.8 rom and your good to go. Live wallpapers and everything. Best rom yet. Runs flawlessly.

I’m running Ultimate Droid 8.1 now… get it off Droid manager premium for all those with the Droid that want 2.1 now… its well worth it and even better than stock 2.1!

  • http://Website Tommytmt

I’d be a lot more patient if they gave me at least SOME info as to when we can expect it…

Droids does? More like doesn’t! Stupid Motorola!

Anyone know of any decent custom roms for the Cliq? Has anyone seen a Cliq running in the wild with a custom 2.1 rom?

I’ve been reading alot of complaining about getting an updates… but think about it, if Moto didn’t take their time to make sure everything works perfect for the Droid(or which ever phone is getting these updates)and they rushed it out and it screws up your phone, your going to be pissed and complain some more about how this is not working right or they didn’t add that….

So I say chill & wait.. that’s hard for me to say because i’m the most impatient person out here when it comes to waiting something badly lol but when it comes to things like updates I rather wait and have my phone and everything they promised to work right the first time.

    • Killa

The waiting isn’t the problem, its Motorola saying they’re gonna update on a specific date, so everyone gets all psyched about it and then they don’t come up with the goods. This is like what, the third time they’ve done this? It can get pretty annoying.

After this Facebook update I decided it was time to root and install a custom ROM.

Went with Bugless Beast and I’m very pleased. I love the fact that they remove all of the pre-installed apps (ie facebook).

Haven’t had a problem yet. Probably won’t ever go back to standard stock.

  • http://Website Tim

I am thankful for the previous date, the imposing idea of official 2.1 closing the security hole got me to try a custom rom before I couldn’t. Now I have been enjoying the fine work of Cyanogen & Koush with no interest in returning to the stock image.

This is bordering on sad comedy at this point. I can’t wait until the internal post-mortem reasons come to light once it does actually come out. Should make for quite a read.

This is ridiculous. Pretty much every other android phone is running the 2.1 OS expect Verizon star DRIOD. I’d like to how they would feel is we all jump ship.

Every other android phone isn’t on 2.1. In fact, most phones aren’t even on 2.0.

Ok I love Motorola, but this is just ridiculous.

Hold on guys. Hasn’t everyone agreed that the real culprit here is Bitfone? Why isn’t more vitriol being directed their way? Sure, it’s Moto’s/VZW’s/whomever’s fault for getting in bed with these HP failures, but for the time being, can’t we hate the people who are really screwing it up on a day-to-day basis?
