Hands on the Archos 7 Android tablet

Archos announced a pair of Android tablets this week that are both expected to retail for around $200. They were able to achieve the low price by using a lesser powered ARM9 Rockchip 2808 processor. The Archos 7 is a 7-inch tablet and the Archos 8 is an 8-inch picture frame.

Archos 7 highlights include:

  • 7″ WVGA 800×480 touchscreen
  • 600MHz ARM9 Rockchip 2808 CPU
  • 128MB RAM
  • 2GB or 8GB
  • Android 1.5 OS
  • 802.11b/g WiFi
  • USB port, microSD support, built-in speakers
  • 7-hour battery life for video, 44 hours for music
  • Weight: 0.35kg

    Does it not support portrait mode? 1.5? 600MHz CPU? I would have definitely snatched this up, even if it cost a little more, if the last two items listed above were updated. Sooooo close, Archos.

    Gosh! IT has everything but the RAM and the CPU. If only Archos could release a 1 Ghz device with 256 MB RAM. I am looking for a device that I can install in my car.

    I don’t think this tablet comes preinstalled with google apps and android market does it!?

    My Archos 7 doesn’t work. Every time I try to go on the internet it says there is an error with android and you have to try again. Does anyone know why?
