Droid X(treme) hands-on with new high-res photos

The Droid X — yeah that’s right its just the X now — has been leaked more frequently than any other handset in recent memory, but these shots are the best so far and really show off the solid build quality and styling of the device.

The guys at Gadget University bring us these latest images with a couple spec changes — although I’m going to go ahead and question one of them. The two tweaks from the last time we saw the Droid X are that they are back to reporting a 4.3″ screen and return to the earlier rumor that this would be running a Snapdragon processor. It’s the Snapdragon processor that I don’t find credible as far too many of the testers I have heard from have indicated that it is using the TI-OMAP, but only time will tell.

The screen is gorgeous with apparently improved color reproduction over the original Droid, but for better or worse it isn’t AMOLED.

Finally they are corroborating the release information we already had with Verizon staff training around June 22nd and a launch date sometime in early July.

This phone looks amazingly polished and even without the front facing camera I think it might give Sprint and the HTC Evo 4G a run for their money.

If you are in the market for a big screen Android phone this summer which is it going to be: the Evo 4G or the Droid X?

Looks really slim. I hope it has the new OMAP and not the Snapdragon.

Well I can tell you it’s going to be running a modified version of Motoblur because it has the Motoblur Notification Bar

Blur kills it. Although I do like the physical buttons on the front. I hate accidentally pressing capacitive ones…

I think this Android device is awesome, but at the same time it should have a front facing camera. Internal specs are important but I feel it should come with some 4g ready extra features. We the consumers spend a lot of money on these devices, I’m still waiting for a jaw dropping out of this would Android device.

Hello!!! The Evo for sure. Its not that hard to think about!

Evo: Two cameras on each side, 4g….4g….4g, made by HTC (all pros!)

Droid X: Made by motorola (con), on verizon (double con), and no 4g… yet, and im sure once verizon does do 4g they will rll out a better phone so why waste the money on this? (con)

and there are many more comparisons to make, and I sure you Evo comes out the winner!

I have been enamored with Android ever since I got mine. but I’m startting to sway away from Android. if everyone is going to abandon keyboards just forget the whole thing.

neither this nor the EVO nor any other recent “high end” phone interests me in the least- they are all missing keyboards.

well, I dont mean to be an ass. I know not all have castrated the keyboards but it seems like damn near all of them have and thats very frustrating to me.
