New Google Maps updates place pages, transit schedules, and Latitude integration

Google Maps is the most used application on my Android phone and it continues to improve with every release. The latest update brings the version to 4.3 and includes improvements to the place pages, transit station pages with schedules, and suggest friends to add to Latitude.

I’ve been playing around with the latest version and I find the new place page updates to be the most useful. Users can easily get an overview of a restaurant from search results page and see what people are saying about the place. This is a great feature for travelers and it makes it even easier to find a great place to eat.

The transit schedules also look pretty useful and I plan to try them out next time I travel out of state. For a complete list of cities that are covered, check out the Google Transit page.

Get the latest version of Maps by scanning the above QR code, searching for Google Maps in Android Market, or if you’re reading this on your phone just tap here. Version 4.3 is available for Android 1.6+ phones in all the countries and languages where Maps is currently available.

New features of Google Maps 4.3 include:

  • See ratings for aspects about a place such as service or atmosphere
  • Transit station pages show next departures
  • Latitude suggests friends

Google maps and navigation is getting better and better all the time.

Now if only we could get a real voice for the turn by turn directions. The robotic voice can be a little… jarring. Albeit also amusing at times. (It turns, Indianapolis into India napples)

It is not correct that maps available in all countries. I just used direct market link for it from my phone and market says item not available. NexusOne, Froyo FRF50, Israel.

Hawthorne train station still not located correctly. I reported this over a year ago. Transit function is useless for me until this gets fixed.

      Lol!

Yeah, and let’s not even talk about Little-Frampton-at -sea. It’s hard to see how Google can expect to be around in 5 years time with major goofs like this!

This keeps getting better and better. Takes the place of a whole bunch of other apps. I can even access my Open Table account through here and make reservations without opening another app.

Uninstall maps completely from the system using root explorer than redownload from the market.

I used maps last month when I was in Chicago for the first time and it was a lifesaver helping me get around on public transit! I don’t know what I would’ve done without it!

Yo I just have a quick question for Verizon customers. What phones better; the LG Ally or the Droid? Or I don’t know if I should wait for the
Droid 2 but that chrome makes it ugly.

If you want a physical keyboard wait for the Droid 2 (better internals and KB) if you don’t care about the physical keyboard go with the Droid X

great put up, very informative. I’m wondering why the opposite experts of this sector do not understand this. You must proceed your writing. I am confident, you’ve a great readers’ base already!
