SlingPlayer Mobile for Android launches on the Android Market

Are you an Android enthusiast who also happens to own a Slingbox? Well, tonight we have some wonderful news for you folks, as the greatly anticipated SlingPlayer Mobile for Android is currently available on the Android Market (though it will set you back a cool $30).

For those of you unfamiliar with SlingPlayer, it is a service that hooks up to your existing TV service and essentially acts as a fancy DVR system that allows you to view and manage your content from wherever you happen to be at the time. What’s great about SlingPlayer is it not only lets you watch pre-recorded events, but also live events. Not only that, but it allows you to manage your programming, set your DVR, and all that great stuff right from your phone or laptop. On the road on business, but really want to watch the ballgame and set up 24 to record? Slingplayer allows you to both watch the game from your Android phone (3G, 4G, or WiFi) and sets your DVR to record tonight’s episode of 24. Pretty nifty, eh?

This level of service does come with a price, however, as the Android application will set you back a pretty $30. If you’re just learning of SlingPlayer, and want to start up the service, the SlingBox (REQUIRED!) will set you back anywhere from $75 (used) to $275 (top of the line). On the bright side, this does appear to be a one-time cost, as no monthly service fee is indicated on SlingBox’s website. So if you’ve been exploring DVR and can’t make up your mind, or simply want some new cool toy to play with and have $105-$305 laying around, you might want to give SlingPlayer a second look.
