The Motorola Milestone will soon make an appearance on Cellular South. If the name sounds familiar, it’s because the Milestone isn’t a new handset by any means. Most of us know the handset as the Droid, but since that trademark is being used by Verizon, Cellular South has named their CDMA version of the handset after its GSM counterpart which is available in Europe.
Cellular South will be shipping the Milestone with Android 2.1, all your favorite Google apps (Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps with turn-by-turn navigation, and Gtalk), and the Android Market. From what we can tell, internal hardware for the Motorola Milestone will remain identical to the original Droid.
Pricing and release date for Cellular South’s Motorola Milestone has not yet been disclosed, but their website indicates that is should be hitting store shelves within the next month or two. Cellular South was actually the first second tier service provider in the U.S. to offer an Android powered handset. The Motorola Milestone should be a great companion to the HTC Hero, just as the Droid was to the Droid Eris.
