Fox News launches Android app

If you are a fan of Fox News, accessing all their shows and content just got a lot easier with the release of their new Android app. Fox News rates as the United States’ most watched cable news channel and their first attempt at Android is a well polished experience.

With the Fox News app users can receive breaking news alerts, read headlines, stream the latest video clips, listen to talk radio, and browse through photo galleries.

In my brief time with the app the most notable feature is the video quality. Each video is crystal clear and they are formatted in a wide-screen resolution to fit perfectly on a WVGA display. Check out the app and let us know how you think it stacks up with the other news services.

Lol I like how every comment is hidden due to low rating, must be Fox News advocates.

This is great news. Regardless your opinion of fox, this further supports android in a much needed market. The more iphone exclusive apps which make the switch the better we all are. Im happy to hear they didnt skimp on the app as so many have when making the translation to the droid.

As much as I do not like fox, Ur right.

    • http://Website chad

Yea, I also hate my cliq. I got T-mobile to replace my cliq with the Slide for FREE!!! I filed a complaint with the BBB and had a very good reason for needing the slide. You should try the BBB.

If you don’t like fox news because you think they give false news then tell me which network gives good news in your opinion?

    • http://Website joe

      BBC, NPR, NYT, CBC, PBS.

    • http://Website ari-free

Here’s what I watch on Fox News: last 20 minutes of Bret Baier, Chris Wallace and the Wall St Journal report. But the worst of Fox is still 10x better than CNN

    • http://Website mapin

More accurate news organizations compared to Fox: all of them.

      But personally I go with:
      Al Jazeera
      Daily Show
      The Economist

      • http://Website Diggity

Amazing! Every single news station you just listed has a liberal slant to them.

Fact: Absolutely EVERY news station has a political slant one way or another – quit acting like Fox News is the only one with a slant.

        • http://Website Mapin

I didn’t say they didn’t have a liberal slant. I said “more accurate”. I’m not speaking about slants, I’m speaking about accuracy in reporting facts. Fox News is caught over and over again just making fact up.

To quote Steven Colbert, unfortunately for the right, reality has a liberal slant

        • Azeem

I agree that most news agencies have a political slant.

I do feel that FOX tends to go a bit over the top with the sensationalist way the news is presented. There a lot of graphics to introduce stories and dramatic themes that at another time could be found in a major motion picture. Every story is the most important story of the decade. Personally, I just find that type of presentation to be tiring and distracting from the news itself.

      • http://Website FoxRules

Daily Show is news? Wow, that’s a first, no wonder you freak when you get the real news on Fox.

        • http://Website Jimmy13

A more recent survey, released by the Pew Research Center on April 15, 2007, indicates that regular viewers of The Daily Show tend to be more knowledgeable about news than audiences of other news sources. Approximately 54% of The Daily Show viewers scored in the high knowledge range, followed by Jim Lehrer’s program at 53% and Bill O’Reilly’s program at 51%, significantly higher than the 34% of network morning show viewers. The survey shows that changing news formats have not made much difference on how much the public knows about national and international affairs, but adds that there is no clear connection between news formats and what audiences know.[81] The Project for Excellence in Journalism released a content analysis report suggesting that The Daily Show comes close to providing the complete daily news.[82]

A 2006 study published by Indiana University tried to compare the substantive amount of information of The Daily Show against prime time network news broadcasts, and concluded that when it comes to substance, there is little difference between The Daily Show and other news outlets. The study contended that, since both programs are more focused on the nature of “infotainment” and ratings than on the dissemination of information, both are broadly equal in terms of the amount of substantial news coverage they offer.[83]

But our fake news needs were already well covered by the Onion app that launched a few days ago…

    • http://Website Jimmy13

Right lol this app is just redundant now. I was thinking when I got outside away from my tv I was really missing some mindless talking points memo info and brainwashing. Now there’s an app for that.

      • http://Website ari-free

if you like govt controlling everyone’s life then you’ll really love Apple. They even walked out of the Chamber of Commerce because of its opposition to cap and trade taxes.

        • http://Website Jimmy13

I don’t want the government to control anyones life. Nor do I want propaganda on a phone. Listen to fox radio while you browse the app lol. I wonder if there is a ticker at the bottom too.

  • http://Website Keith

Thank You, AndroidandMe, for reviewing this app strictly on its merits and not on its content. You clearly have readers on both sides of the political fence.

  • http://Website jerry

about time FOX… seems like you were married to Apple/iPhone

  • http://Website Pavel

Awesome! The only network that covers stories PMSNBC and the other tanking-in-ratings leftist schills refuse to report!

  • Azeem

Meh. I’ll stick with BBC. More reporting, less sensationalism and conservative spin. Just something to be said about having facts and news presented without flashy graphics and overly dramatic theme music for every single news story that crosses the screen.

That being said, it’s good to hear that a major media provider like FOX is supporting android. The more major supporters that start backing our platform, the more that will start throwing their weight behind it. Apple may have the sheer handset numbers, but Android is closing in, and I get the feeling that once other major companies realize this, we’ll start getting more quality first-party apps like this.

  • http://Website Adam

It really just depends on how you view things. I am a Christian, gun supporting, conservative so I prefer fox news over the other stations who enjoy portraying anyone with a gun as a nut. I also do not need to hear about meaningless talk Obama has with whomever.

I would rather see this country ran by someone with more conservative attitude especially about spending and every news station I have seen except fox eats up the crap Obama is throwing out there.

    • http://Website pandadumpster

Good call, talk is meaningless…that’s why you chose to speak out and comment on this article right?

It’s beyond me how anyone can think that just one news station gets it right. Maybe, just maybe, the stations that don’t run a show headlined by a guy who thinks Obama hates white people and also happens to be a neo-nazi-socialist (irregardless of the fact that the face of real socialism is Sweden, Denmark, and other functioning affluent nations) get some things right?

    • http://Website Hoss789

I’m also a christian, gun owning conservative (albeit a moderate one) and I cannot stand Fox news. This is strictly my opinion, and you are welcome to yours (that is the great part about living in a free country). I do not like them because of their conservative slant. It is because the almost complete lack of news. They are an opinion station that does almost no real reporting. I do not watch Fox News for the same reason I do not watch MSNBC. They are both so caught up in supporting their own rhetoric that they forget to actually report on the news. They provide rhetoric, not information.

Like I said, I am not particularly a fan but I would like to applaud ‘Android and Me’ for only reporting on the functionality of the app and not making a judgment on its substance.

On a side note, I like to listen to NPR for my news. I have heard people complain that it is too liberal and I have heard people complain it is to conservative. The truth is they are about a centerest as you can get. Point in fact, just yesterday I listened to an hour long panel discussion of the Tea Party movement. The panel had liberal and conservatives. The discussion was informative and…CIVIL. Something neither Fox News and MSNBC never seem to be.

      • http://Website tke789

Sorry Typo: What I meant to say in the first paragraph is “I don’t like them, but it is NOT because of their conservative slant”.

  • http://Website CactusGrass Dave

Unbelievable!!! I have never seen such one-sided hatred. I would guess that the majority of you badmouthing Fox News, probably had to look up how to spell it.

I am completely taken aback at how a company can be blowing away the competition by keeping news objective, and still have so many people talking smack.

It would also be my guess that the only news that any of you will ever think of as balanced, will be only the news you want people to hear. It stuns me that you can call yourselves liberal or progressive. Perhaps while you have the dictionary open, looking up fox, you can see if you can find the real definition of either of those words. It is a tall order but I still have faith in you.

It will come as a disappointment to you, but your self-important opinion is in the minority by almost 5 to 1. Check TV by the Numbers . Perhaps if you would start watching Fox News and stop posting on blogs you will wise up with the rest of us.

    BBC ??? Really???

    • http://Website Jimmy13

Fox News??? Really??? Also when you say wise up do you mean blinded. I’ve seen fox news and I am blown away by the fact that people aren’t shocked and appalled by the material on that network. They just work all these weird angles on every show. They mix pundits and news to try and confuse the masses. They report opinion not news. Just an all together terrible production meant to breed mindless, misguided masses on the guise if being a super patriots.

  • http://Website Raech

Well at least everyone has an opinion either way. I am rather shocked why people feel the need to argue it. It is an app for a news channel. If you don’t want it don’t get it. It is not like it came pre installed on your phone. No one is going to agree on a news app. Stop trying to win. This is not a contest. I for one do not feel the need to tell other people what or how to think so I am glad we have choices.

This app was only available on IPhone before. They chose to not gut it when making it for android. This is fantastic news as a trend for us getting apps currently only for iphone. This is a very good trend. I for one hope it continues.

I tried it THREE TIMES. All times, it forced closed, it’s slow, and doesn’t update frequently at all. I’ve uninstalled it for the last time. ( Droid 1, FROYO 2.2D )
