Remember that 7-inch Android tablet that Michael Dell was showing off last week? The Wall Street Journal is now reporting it will launch in the next few weeks and a 10-inch version is coming in the next 6-12 months.
No hard details are available yet, but we still believe this 7-inch device is Dell’s Looking Glass tablet that is powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor. We originally thought Dell’s 7-incher would not appear till next year when we are expecting the Honeycomb tablets, but it sounds like they will use a custom version of Android 2.2 for the device.
Originally it was rumored that AT&T would be the carrier of choice for the Looking Glass, but we also hear that T-Mobile might be a customer as well. Early prototypes of Dell’s 5-inch Streak tablet supported T-Mobile 3G, but apparently the carrier knew the device would flop and pulled it from their lineup at the last second. Now a new leak posted at TmoNews revealed an unknown device called the Dell Claire, which could be the codename for this 7-inch tablet.
Based on the comments (or lack thereof) from previous Looking Glass articles, it doesn’t sound like Android nation is too excited about the possibility of purchasing a Dell tablet. If you fall in that camp, what could Dell do different to make you a customer? Or are you just waiting for Google to release the official tablet-version of Android?
