Star Wars app pack coming to Verizon customers next week

Have you seen all the Star Wars live wallpapers and exclusive content that launched with the limited edition R2-D2 Droid 2? The response has been so overwhelmingly positive that Verizon decided to release a Star Wars Empire Strikes Back app to the Android Market, but it will only be available for their customers.

Look for the app to launch on Monday, October 4th for $2.99 and feature lots of Star Wars goodies including photo galleries, live wallpapers, trivia challenges, and even a couple of widgets. Video preview is after the jump.

    Seriously???

No one cares about star wars; we want articles about things that we actually care about.

So.. the only exclusive thing about the R2-D2 Droid 2 was the back design and the boot animation?

It also was sped up to 1.2 ghz.

Yeah, but wasn’t the Star Wars content the biggest draw to buy the phone? Now Verizon is making the content available to all Verizon android customers. The exclusive Star Wars content isn’t so exclusive now,is it? :/

I don’t like that it’s only available to Verizon wireless customers.
Wouldn’t it increase profits to let everyone download it?
An exclusive star wars app is cool, but will never win me back to Verizon.

I wonder how many of those R2-D2 phones are actually going to be used on a day to day basis? Since Star Wars is such a big hit with certain collectors, I can see some of them being kept in their original packaging as collectors items, or only seeing limited use. Heck, right after they were released, I saw ads on eBay asking for $1,000-1,300! I’ve bought cars & trucks for less….. ;-) As for the Star Wars App Pack, it looks pretty neat, and though I have no interest in purchasing it myself, I know some of my family & friends who will certainly snatch it up. But, as Hans mentioned, I’m sure it’s kind of a letdown to those who bought the R2-D2 to see it available to all, especially so soon.

Is there any update on this? Has it been released?
