Doing some holiday traveling? Check out the new Southwest Airlines Android app

Southwest Airlines, by far the most popular low-cost airline in the world, has released an Android application into the market. The Southwest Airlines application allows Android users to use their handsets to do the following things:

  • Book and manage flights
  • Manage car rental information
  • Check-in for your Southwest flights
  • Check the status of a Southwest flight
  • Review flight schedules
  • View your rapid rewards account
  • Access helpful contact information

Admittedly, the Southwest Airlines application usefulness is very limited due to it’s Southwest-only features, but it’s certainly a valuable application for anyone who prefers to travel with Southwest.

The Southwest Airlines application is currently available for all Android versions, and can be found on the Android market or by scanning the QR code above.

It’s about time. I wish I had this app a week ago. It would’ve saved me so much time. Thanks for the write up.

Damn, what’s up with all the incredibly invasive ads Android&Me? It’s been a bit crazy the past couple of days.

TELL ME ABOUT IT, DUDE! If this keeps up, I’ll just get my Android news from somewhere else. I know they have to make money and I don’t mind ads being in the sidebar or corner. It gets annoying when it starts sliding up the bottom part of the screen or like a pop up and you have to close it. >.< A&ME, just stop…

I’ve been noticing these on many of the Android sites. I will pass the feedback onto Taylor; I don’t know how much control we have over which ads are displayed, but these pop-up ads (sprint and radio shack are the ones i’ve noticed) are VERY annoying.

I’ll stick with ITA’s “On The Fly” app. It shows airlines from around the world, not just SouthWest. It even sorts them based on price, calendar, etc.

Trust me, it’s worth the download, and it’s friggin FREE!

Ummmm….but wait. Can I go through TSA and board a flight using a QR Code with Southwest? How would I go about getting that QR Code? I saw a lady use her phone to check-in through TSA and at the gate and now I want to. Tell me How!!!!!
