HTC Merge misses rumored launch, appears on Verizon’s site

The HTC Merge leaked back in September and was rumored to launch at Verizon on November 18th, but it failed to appear. The device briefly appeared on Verizon’s site yesterday, but it was quickly taken down.

It is widely accepted that the Merge is Verizon’s version of the HTC Desire Z, but it features a normal slide-out keyboard instead of the unique z-hinge found on the Desire Z and G2.

New rumors suggest that Verizon might have delayed the Merge to make it one of their first 4G LTE handsets. Verizon recently said their 4G handsets were coming in February, so we might be waiting a couple more months if the Merge is getting upgraded to LTE.

If you are on Verizon, would you rather have a Merge with 3G now or wait a couple months for a possible 4G LTE version?

im not on VZW but by the time this is released its game over release it now 4G-less because by its release(february most likely) Tegras will be out for every carrier

What if they scrapped it to upgrade the internals?

I agree. May as well put it on the market now as by the time VZ launches its LTE network, anything NOT dual-core will not be a top-of-the-line unit.

I’m sure most will think that it was dumb for them for wait, I personally think it can work in Verizon’s favor. Provided that they don’t try and market it as the top of the line model, just near top since it will still be a good phone.

Not everyone is going to want the top of the line (and most expensive) phone. Many will be happy with a more than decent 4g phone even without dual cores.

The HTC evo 4G on sprint RULES THIS DEVICE AND SPRINT RULES VERIZON. THEY BETTER WAIT SO THEY CAN TRULY GET IN THE 4G GAME CAUSE RIGHT NOW THE BEST 4G DEVICES ON THE MARKET ARE 1. HTC EVO 4G…2. HTC MYTOUCH 4G…3. SAMSUNG EPIC 4G…NONE OF VERIZON CURRENT DEVICES CAN EVEN COMPARE TO THESE DEVICES NOT EVEN THAT 3G DROID X. IF VERIZON IS SMART THEY WILL WAIT TO UPGRADE THAT WHACK NETWORK.

Oh you silly, silly boy. No one currently has true 4G. Did you seriously buy into Sprint’s hype? Not even LTE will be true 4G, but when it rolls out, it will be more widely available than WiMax and most likely faster. Once LTE enabled Verizon handsets appear, they’ll probably leave the Evo and Epic in the dust. Dual core processors(Tegra 2, Orion, and Snapdragons) and LTE will be the foundations for some of the best handsets out there. :)

You need to stop putting bubblegum under the keys of your keyboard and a couple of lessons in netiquette. I didn’t even finish reading your post because it was hurting my eyes.

It would be nice for VZ to bring this phone and other phones out before January 7th so I can get the new $9.99 smartphone family line discount. I would gladly take the discount and get a good 3G phone then wait and miss out on saving $240 over my contract period.
I would totally indulged in this phone because of the keyboard, but I just can’t get past the Bing…

How hard is it to make a good device???? Come on just one amazing Phone. All I want is a 4.3 inch screen, Samoled (supposedly saves battery), swype, Htc Sense, 8 megapixel camera and a front one too, a dual-core processor running 2.3 and Hspa or Wimax/ LTE support. and if u could throw in the Iphones resolution Retina display it would kill everything. But noooo. If HTC made this phone they would be on Top of everything and they would make lots more money. Especially if it came to all carriers.

Really, is that all you want? I think you mean you want it all.

I’ve been waiting for this device for months (on T-Mobile with the G2, for now), and I’d much rather see it today; unless they’re upgrading it to LTE and adding a FF Camera and the new HTC SenseUI, in which case I *may* be able to hold out until Feb.

Wow that is a really sharp looking phone. Would definitely be worth waiting for an LTE gingerbread version in a couple of months.

Neither. VZW is hosing thier good phones by putting Bing on them. I wonder if their WP7 models will be defaulted with Google, lol.

I would rather have it now and avoid the additional LTE data charges/limits and easily remove the Bing. About 6 months ago this is my dream phone to the letter. However, if it doesn’t come out before the new year I’ll just have to go without that wonderful looking kb.
