We were already expecting glasses-free 3D phones next summer in the U.S., but it looks like the Japanese will get to enjoy them first thanks to two new Android devices from Sharp. The Japanese carrier Softbank is launching a pair of 3D phones from Sharp including the touchscreen-only 003SH and QWERTY-packing 005SH.
Each device runs Android 2.2 with Sharp’s “TapFlow UI” and features a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor paired with a 3.8 inch glasses-free 3D display. The 003SH comes with a 9.6 megapixel camera and the 005SH features an 8 megapixel camera.
The 003SH is due for release in December, while the 005SH hits in late February.
I’ve actually seen some of these glasses-free 3D displays in person and “jaw-dropping” is the best way I can describe them. It’s truly amazing to watch a 3D movie on a small display, but I’m not entirely sure I would want to have 3D on all the time.
What do you think about 3D displays? Is this a must-have feature for your next superphone?
