HTC EVO Shift 4G launching at Sprint on January 9th for $150?

Sprint has yet to announce the HTC EVO Shift 4G, but more leaks are beginning to show that the phone might be revealed next week. Recent discoveries by Android Police show the EVO Shift 4G is already appearing in Sprint’s inventory system and it looks like the phone will debut for $149 with a new 2-year contract. Our friend Phil from Android Central thinks the phone will launch on Sunday, January 9th, which makes sense if the phone gets announced next week at CES.

This QWERTY slider is Sprint’s version of the Desire Z (think T-Mobile G2 in the U.S.) and it features a 3.7 inch display, 800 MHz second-gen Snapdragon processor, 512 MB RAM, 5 megapixel camera, and support for Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. About the only physical difference from the T-Mobile G2 is that the EVO Shift 4G lacks the unique z-hinge and offers a more traditional slide mechanism for the keyboard.

We are afraid that Sprint might have waited too long to release this device next to all the faster dual-core phones that are getting announced, but I guess that’s why they priced it at only $149. You have to remember that Sprint is still charging the monthly $10 4G fee, so keep that in mind before you sign a 2-year contract for this device. Overall it looks like a great Android phone, but I would wait for something a little faster before I spend my hard earned money.

This is the only new phone that I’ve heard of coming out for Sprint any time soon and I agree with AndroidFTW that its super lame. Anyone know of a phone worth looking forward to?

I was excited about this phone about 3 weeks ago. But with the LG dual core phone announced to be released in europed in Jan 2010, this has already become old news. If this Knight phone was delayed in being released a month or 2 because of their lame Sprint ID ware, that was a dumb, costly move by Sprint. Early release is everything in this fast paced Android world.

I think dual core has already cornered the market on what type of phones people are gonna buy.hint carriers: if it ain’t dual core you might of missed the opportunity for people to anticipate a new launch.
I think everybody’s waiting on these new breed of phones which are supposed to be so much more faster make that new phone purchase.

I love how you guys mention the $10 extra charge when sprint still has the cheapest plan out if all carrier and the only carrier with unlimited data.

Sprint has one of the lamest selections of Android phones in the industry. OTOH, they’ve got the best plan pricing.

But they officially stopped updating the OS on the Samsung Moment just a few months after they released it, meaning I get stuck with Android 2.1 until November 2011 and my wife is stuck with it until May 2012… unless we upgrade early for a slightly higher price and new 2-year committments.

I’ve been wanting to upgrade for months because I’m tired of my phone losing all voice and data abilities randomly and needing to be completely rebooted to get them back. Sprint and Samsung never fixed that and stonewalled customers when they complained. I can’t afford to pay another $600 a year for Verizon, plus ETFs to Sprint. So if I’m going to upgrade to a new phone with Sprint, it’s not going to be Samsung (I’m boycotting ALL of their products), and it’s not going to be single core or below 1 GHz.

Why would u take such a great phone and make so un great it dosent even have a front facing camera and wat bout the big screen. They should take evo out of the description this phone suck ass

it does have 2 cameras. top left of the screen, right above the htc. they wanted to make something smaller and more compact, hence the smaller screen. its not even an inch difference in size. i wish it did have the dual processor tho (their error), but i guess it’s the “baby” of the evo. although it is the new snapdragon, which outclocks the old 1ghz by a big margin.
