HTC leaks pics of their next big Android phone, likely headed to Verizon 4G

Someone from HTC began leaking close-up pictures of their next Android phone to several blogs today. New images appeared on Gizmodo, Engadget, Slashgear, and Android Central. None of the photos reveal the entire phone, but when you piece them together it’s pretty clear this is the same phone we have been calling the HTC Mecha or Incredible HD, which first appeared on BGR way back in August.

The HTC Mecha was Verizon’s version of the Desire HD and it was originally scheduled to launch this past October. Now rumors suggest that it was delayed till 2011 so that HTC could upgrade the radio to support Verizon’s 4G LTE network.

Verizon already confirmed they will have LTE devices at the upcoming CES and HTC CEO Peter Chou also said his company was working on LTE devices, so the chances of seeing this phone in the next couple of weeks are high.

Look for this phone on Verizon in early 2011.

*Attention G2 Users* there is an app called “LED me know BETA” on the market it enables you to get the LED to blink green or amber and you can customize the trackpad at certain speed for sms, gmail, and other notification. Just wanted to pass the info. Thanks!

Looks like the DesireHD and Nexus One had a baby.

that is a desire HD, just compared the pics with my sons and i cant tell the difference. have htc given the the design staff a holiday!

thats not to take anything away from the Desire HD, it is a great device, and the first and only ive seen this year that has even remotely made me feel like upgrading my Desire.

however it still isnt worth the upgrade over the original desire, as all it really offers is larger screen, il hang on till htc duel cores arrive.

      great phone tho :)

HTC always makes great looking phones. Unlike samsung who makes the glossy plastic iphone wanna be and can’t get an update out to save there life.

I upranked you, and I’m rocking an Epic.

Their designs & software suck, but they have the best internals available. The Hummingbird still dominates (until dual-core), the camera is second to none, Gorilla Glass is a big help, and sAMOLED isn’t perfect but it’s neat.

Its sad that you can only pick one, awesome internals (Samsung) or awesome design & support (HTC). Btw, not flaming anyone. I’ve owned Android phones from HTC, Samsung, and Motorola, and the Galaxy S phones have the best hardware available.

Great looking phone s/h/b the nexus 2 as you say but face it Verizon will just add crap ware to this and ruin a good thing. I will also add the pure google phone this year is the NS it comes once a year like Santa and it lands on T-Mobile. G1 N1 and NS

For half a second, I thought that lens and dual flash set-up was some kind of speaker rig and my heart skipped a beat (no pun intended). Good looking phone, though.

not surprise if it does goes to verizon, they always get first pick for top notch android phones. the fact that tmo in the u.s. didnt get the desire hd but tmo over sea did, and other carriers in the states did is very disappointing.

You’re argument would’ve been much better in like june i mean look tmo is getting the Lg star,G2,mt4g,nexus s

I also wish this was the next nexus, but I think this will be my next phone. I could care less about LTE at the moment, but a solid dual core from HTC will serve me well for the next two years.

So is this anything more than Verizon’s version of the Evo?

  • Brandon Evo 4G

When this comes out somebody HAS to do an Evo/Incredible HD comparison. I’d like to see how my Evo would stack up to it’s “big red” younger brother.

Really wish Google or HTC or someone would stick to there guns on some sort of pointing devices. I don’t use it a lot, but for those of us who don’t want a physical keyboard it comes in very handy in a pinch.

I wonder what is under the hood. I know 4G is cool and all but in normal use the phone is not being pushed by 4G. That’s just for data speeds and downloads. Will this be 2nd gen Snapdragon or a Tegra 2? If not it’s going to be like any other Sense phone. Another Evo? Maybe with the new sense and 2nd gen processor. Don’t get me wrong though, this will be nice to have but, their all starting to seem a like. I think HTC should start making unique designed phones with stock on them a long with other phones with sense. For variety. Cause just sense the only difference is the hardware build. So unless it has a dual core then that performance is a big difference when it comes to smoothness and quality. That’s a big impact on how a user may feel when using their phone without those small hiccups aka force closing. Speed is awesome but combined with quality running OS is better. That’s what 2.3 did, it threaded the quality together. Then we get the overhaul. Can’t have flashy with no fundamentals and discipline.

Wonder what those LTE data plans for VZW’s phones are going to look like? Right now, T-Mobile is the only provider not charging additional fees on top of existing required data package plans. Since Sprint is charging $10 as a premium on top of their data plans, but still provides unlimited data, I’m extremely interested how Verizon plans to serve up their Long Term Evolution.
