Samsung expected to reveal Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Tab 2 at CES

Now that we know Motorola will unveil their Honeycomb tablet at CES, it appears that Samsung will rush out a competing product to try and keep pace in the tablet wars. We have heard little about Samsung’s CES plans, but a report from the Korea Times thinks that Samsung will reveal updated versions of their best-selling Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab products.

It was recently reported that Samsung placed a sizeable order with NVIDIA for their Tegra 2 and we expect to find the dual-core processor in their next wave of products. Google chose Tegra 2 as the lead platform for Honeycomb, so Samsung had little choice when it came to CPU choice if they wanted to keep up with Motorola and their hometown competitor LG.

When we first got our hands on the Galaxy Tab I said it was easily the best Android tablet, but I warned our readers about signing a two-year contract for one since we knew that Samsung was already working on a Honeycomb tablet. The same thing was also said about the Nexus S – it’s the best Android phone available right now, but much faster dual-core models are coming out early next year.

Several sources have said that Samsung was testing dual-core phones, but we have yet to hear any detailed reports about their Honeycomb tablet. We only have one more week to go until CES, so we will find out if there is any truth to the rumors soon.

Do you think Samsung will have their dual-core devices ready to show next week?

Seeing as how Samsung’s tract record is, the Galaxy S2 & Galaxy Tab 2 will all be released with Android 2.2 Froyo, with the promise of Gingerbread 2.3, which will take until early 2012 (when Honeycomb 2.4/3.0 will be the standard) to receive it.

To be honest, I would be very surprised if they released a galaxy tab/phone 2 at CES…. they just put out the tablets a few months ago and the phones not long before. Isn’t the normal wait one year before putting out a second generation device?

If anything, I think they will be just putting dual core processors into the same model of Galaxy tab/phone from now on until the actual next models arrive.

Look at the Droid/Droid 2 launches

      • http://asurroca.com Alfonso Surroca

True, but the Droid was launched in November 2009 and the Droid 2 in August 2010, no? While that’s a much shorter generation than the usual 12-24 months, Galaxy Tab was released around Oct/Nov, so were they to launch a second-generation in January, that’d be possibly the shortest generation ever. Maybe they’ll show off reference hardware just to try and steal Motorola’s thunder, but not actually release the Galaxy Tab 2 until the summer…

  • http://Website Kenny

Well I just grabbed the Vibrant, hopefully if this comes out, it comes out prior to my 14 day trial so I can switch it.

      LOL.

CES is a tech trade show. It will be many months away from the products being actually released to the market/consumers.

Lol Same here. I have my N-S and will probably upgrade in Late summer of next year. I will just sell this bad boy for 200 – 250 bones and put the money towards my next super phone. Its what i have been doing for the past couple of years anyways and it has been working. :)

  • http://Website UniqueNate

They could release another high end phone introducing their dual core. I definitely don’t think it’ll be a tab 2 or galaxy 2 that soon. It should at the least be 6 months to a year for any phone to have a sequel. Now If they use galaxy as a brand like they are then maybe the next best galaxy phone but not a S2.

We will see. I’m just curious as to why nothing was mentioned to come to Sprint.

    • http://Website dagamer34

Samsung would much rather burn customers that bought a Galaxy Tab than to give the Android Honeycomb tablet market to Motorola for 6 months just to space out their products and “be nice”.

Anyone who bought a Galaxy Tab should have been warned that Honeycomb was just around the corner and their hardware was already last get. Tegra 2 has been hyped all year, the signs were on the wall! Any reputable sign that reviewed the Tab should have told you what was coming at CES 2011 (heck, never make any major purchases before CES if you want the latest stuff)

      • http://Website Lucian Armasu

That’s true. If they did buy the Galaxy Tab they have no one to blaim but themselves. Sorry to say but it’s true. With all the news flying around about dual core and Honeycomb tablets coming soon, it’s not like you can say “oh i didn’t know!”. Plus, even Google said months before Galaxy Tab started selling, that Android 2.2 was not ready for tablets. Also Samsung said that the Tab will only get Gingerbread update.

i know that`s kinda crazy but i`ve been saving for 3 Months now LOL and planning on saving up to July and only then i`ll have enough money to buy 3 of Sony`s MOST EXPENSIVE PCs

Of Course, ALL “HTC” in the paragraph above ^ can be replaced with “Google” if they released something to be “Pure Google”

I think Samsung will show a new tablet running with Nvidia Tegra 2 and a Music Player like the ipod touch at CES, but no Galaxy s2 phone. MWC will be the place where they will show the galaxy s2 running with Samsungs own dual core orion chip. Shipment will be in March/April.

and we also saw a working orion processor on android back in november.

Available for testing in 4Q 2010, and “available for mas production in first half of 2011″ could also mean that they’ll ship in second half of 2011. Nothing strange about that statement or that implies Orion phones will be here in the next 2 months.

Also, I think that by the time Orion gets on the market, it will compete with Tegra 3 not Tegra 2. Can’t wait to hear the Tegra 3 specs at CES and when it will be available in products.
