Leaked document hints at March 1 launch date for the Motorola Atrix

The AT&T bound Motorola Atrix did a great job of wowing the crowds and our staff when it was unveiled at CES last week.  Well all know the specs by heart, so the last bit of news we’re all still waiting on in the launch date.  Motorola has not given us any specifics, though a newly leaked document from AT&T has pegged March 1st as a possible launch date for the Motorola Atrix.

A March 1st launch date is certainly plausible, but a few of us still have our doubts.  Android Central points out that AT&T typically releases new handsets on Sundays, not Tuesdays.  But since the Motorola Atrix is not your ordinary handset, we wouldn’t expect AT&T to treat is as such.

For now, we suggest you circle March 1st on your calendar.  We’ll be sure to keep you guys updated with any new information once AT&T and Motorola get around to releasing their official launch plans for the Motorola Atrix.

I think I’ll skip the Atrix competely and wait for the 3rd installment of the Nexus line; or at least hoping there will be one.

MotoBlur never struck my fancy at all, the bottom buttons (green and blue) are unsightly in my opinion. And on top of that I wanna see what the dual-core Snapdragons can do once they release.

I’m in the same boat. MWC is right around the corner and I’m confident that we’ll be seeing some new devices from HTC with Qualcomm’s dual-core processors. But if you like the specs of the Motorola Atrix, keep in mind you can always download the Froyo launcher, keyboard, and live wallpaper from the Android Market http://androidandme.com/2011/01/applications/customize-your-phone-with-a-few-gingerbread-apps/

If you wait for the next best thing, you’ll be waiting for ever. Cause by the time they talk about a Nexus 3, there will be talks of a Nexus 4. At the rate these phones are coming out (on any carrier) you might as well get the best phone out after a large conference (like the CE or E3) and stick with it for a year or two then just sell it and upgrade. Or if you are generous, pass it down to your wife, gf, or family who may be slow at updating.

That’s what I do. Already had the iPhone 3G, Nexus One, Droid X, and currently iPhone 4. Moving on to the Atrix in March.

I’d love to end up with the Atrix, but Im hoping Sprint and/or HTC release a similarly speced device in the next two conferences.

Nick is right, but I’m thinking like J-man. Something special is coming down the pipe. Awesome phone but I won’t switch carriers for this.

I am goona get the Bionic. I bet I can find a custom rom to remove the blur stuff just like i did for my d2. I cant believe this Atrix does not have LTE. With ATT launching there LTE network mid year why would you leave it out?

    • Nick Gray

It’s a bit hard to launch an LTE handset when AT&T has no LTE infrastructure to test it with. Yes, you can always do testing in the labs, but you’ll have a lot of angry customers if things don’t go right at launch.

    • WickedToby741

I tend to agree. Its annoying how they don’t make phones very future-proof. They could have easily put the LTE SIM slot in there and just leave it unactivated or don’t even put a SIM card in. Then AT&T can activate it when they feel the network is ready. They could also do something similar to what they’re doing with the XOOM where you could send it in to have it upgraded to LTE. I’m sure theres complications, but it sucks to have a phone thats obsolete in a few months. I realize the Atrix won’t be completely obsolete because of the dual core and accessories, but this seems like a perfect candidate for LTE and it won’t be receiving it. It just seems kind of pointless in my opinion that theres no option for LTE on this amazing phone.

I think all Motorola phones suck, because Motorola locks down the phone, making it very difficult for developers to create custom roms for it.

I would much rather buy a HTC phone with a dual-core snapdragon 4 months from now.

Why couldnt the Nexus S have these specs?

  • MC

Being the disgruntled owner of a, “never-fired-on-all-cylinders” Moto Cliq, I’ve NO interest in this thing, BUT hope it encourages LG to release the Optimus 2X earlier than the now-stated March/April timeframe! Should that happen, I’ll consider my stupid investment in Motorola technology has resulted in SOME positive return!

    • Nick Gray

I don’t think we’ll be seeing any dual-core phones any time before March 1st. The process of getting a handset ti market is quite long. While NVIDIA might be itching to get these dual-core Tagre 2 phones on the market, I’m sure they want things to be working just right and have customers give the handsets rave reviews.

      • MC

My experience with the Cliq leads me to believe, “getting it right before releasing it on the world” really makes no difference at all! It’s what I like to call the, “Microsoft Factor.” That’s where YOU pay the manufacturer for the privilege of beta testing their product for them – at your own peril as well as expense!

Most of the people rather wait until June, when the new star iPhone 5 is revealed!
There is absolutely no reason to buy the then-ancient Latrix in march, imho.

    cheers, Ben
