The LG Ally didn’t receive much buzz as a mid-range Android phone, but this QWERTY-packing unit sold quite well on Verizon as a low-cost alternative to the Motorola Droid. Some reports ranked the LG Ally as the 7th best selling Android phone in the U.S., so we are glad to report that LG delivered an update for Android 2.2 and Verizon is pushing it out now.
In addition to all the new features of Android 2.2, other enhancements include Bluetooth voice dialing accuracy, enhanced screen rotation for app compatibility, and more security options such as remote device wipe. Going forward, this is a good sign for LG as they prepare to launch the Optimus 2x. Their new dual-core phone will ship with Android 2.2, but LG has already said they are working on an Android 2.3 update. Hopefully by the time this phone reaches our shores, we could see it shipping with Android 2.3 out of the box.
