SONY Ericsson XPERIA Pro announcement, specs, and images

The physical hardware buttons on the XPERIA Play may not be for everyone, but if you’re the type of person who enjoys a good slide-out QWERTY keyboard, then the SONY Ericsson XPERIA Pro may be the right handset for you.  The Android 2.3 device features a 3.7-inch 854 x 480 capacitive display with Sony Mobile BRAVIA® Engine, 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, 2 megapixel front facing camera with Exmor Râ„¢ for mobile, HTDI out, and what looks to be a pretty spacious four row QWERTY keyboard.

The SONY Ericsson XPERIA Pro will launch towards the end of Q2 and will be available in black, silver, and red.  The XPERIA Pro is certainly not the most advanced smartphone that’s been announced at Mobile World Congress this year, but it’s leaps and bounds ahead of the X10 Mini Pro that SE unveiled in 2010.  I think someone at SONY Ericsson finally realized that most people want a smartphone with a screen that’s a bit larger than 2.5-inches.

February 13, 2011, Barcelona, Spain — Sony Ericsson today unveils the Xperiaâ„¢ neo and Xperiaâ„¢ pro, the newest additions to the new generation of Xperiaâ„¢ smartphones. Closely following the launch of the Xperiaâ„¢ arc smartphone earlier this year, these latest smartphones also feature cutting edge technology from Sony and an exceptional multimedia experience on the latest version of the Androidâ„¢ platform — Gingerbread.

Featuring an ergonomically crafted keyboard, Sony Ericsson has focused on integrating the hardware with clever messaging functions for a perfect user experience. Xperiaâ„¢ pro introduces the subtle but fast Type & Send functionality eliminating the need to open a dedicated app for each type of message, and Smart Keyboard that triggers predictive messaging actions automatically when the user slides out the keyboard.

Xperiaâ„¢ pro is also the ideal business phone for Android fans coming complete with a set of professional functions such as syncing your email, calendar and contacts in a secure way and the pre-loaded Office Suite Pro lets consumers view and edit office documents directly on the phone.
