Casio G’zOne Commando now in the battlefield

Verizon and Casio announced the Casio G’zOne Commando last Thursday, April 26, and sure enough, you can now head over to Verizon’s site and purchase it. As expected, the device will cost you $199.99 on a two-year contract, but if you are not the commitment type, you can get it for the full retail price of $449.99 (with free overnight shipping).

Casio G’zOne Commando specifications:

  • Android 2.2 Froyo
  • 3.6-inch display (480×800), protected with Gorilla Glass
  • 800 MHz processor
  • 512 MB of RAM
  • 5MP rear-facing camera
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Stereo Blutooth
  • Meets Military Standards 810G for Immersion, Rain, Shock and Dust Resistant, Vibration, Salt Fog, Humidity, Solar Radiation, Altitude, Low and High Temperature Storage
  • Mobile Hotspot with connectivity of up to 5 devices
  • The Commando’s specs are not impressive, but they are not horrible either, and it is something one usually has to deal with, having a rugged phone. The price may be a bit on the high end, but remember that damaging Casio’s armored soldier should be extremely hard to accomplish, since it meets Military rugged standards, so it may actually be a good investment if you are one to drop your phone often.

Though the phone may not be for everyone, it is very well adapted to those who work/live in an rough environment, and it even comes with Casio G’zGear, with eight modes that will aid those with an active lifestyle. Are you guys getting your hands on this device? Let us know if you think it is worth it, afterall, you can get other devices with better specs for the same price, like the HTC Droid Incredible 2 (also released today).

The rugged factor really appeals to me since I work as an auto technician, but those specs are anemic. I am currently using an OG Droid and other than a few nicks in the bezel, it is none the worse for wear (and I have no protection on it at all). I am a firm believer in Gorilla Glass. Let’s get it on a high end phone now.

Immersion huh? Doubt I could take it on a dive and it will live. (Would be impressed if it can though)

Have had the Command for just over a month. It is my first ‘smart phone’, so by comparison , all I can really tell you is that it has impressed some of my friends who have had smart phones and lost them to the elements or gravity! I am a firefighter and so it is important that whatever may be in my pocket when I respond be tough, compact, and dependable for my needs when I need it. My phone has endured (so far) being dropped onto concrete, high heat and humidity levels (in my pocket under my turnouts) , and even gone into the lake with me. . . not a single problem!
For the techies out there, you may quantify an extra 40-50$ for a protective shell so you can get a phone with more under the hood, but I don’t have room for the added bulk . Call quality seems to be better on both ends of the call when I have the earbuds in ( I listen to a lot of music via Pandora) . Is it perfect? No. Is it perfect for me? So far it’s the best I’ve ever had. Is your phone faster? Probably, but let’s trade for a month and see who gets back a working phone!! lol

i love this phone it is waterproof like it says and the best part it still has a app store, my favorite game is madden, madden is the same like it is on the iPhone! they also have a ton of other apps. i will get this phone, and i have it. my friend dared me to throw it out of a car, so i did, and i landed in water! i took it out and it still worked fine. it is amazing! WARNING don’t drop the phone to much because it might snap in some areas, it reacts better to water and sand but it will still work after a normal drop.
