T-Mobile G2X goes live for purchase

The T-Mobile G2X is available for purchase now on T-Mobile.com and if you get in before 5 p.m. Eastern you could still pay just an extra $25 to have it delivered right into the comfort of your own home tomorrow (or $12 to get it Monday). Either option would net you a couple days of gloating with your new toy before just anyone can walk into a T-Mo store next Wednesday to fondle this dual-core beauty.

According to some T-Mobile forums there were issues getting the orders to process immediately after the G2X went live, but those have since been straightened out so it should be smooth sailing if you want to get your order in now.

For those of you that might be worried about the potential post acquisition future remember that the G2X is one of the devices that has you covered even if/when AT&T repurposes the existing T-Mobile bands. Beyond that the G2X is one of the most future-proofed smartphones available at the moment with a Tegra 2 processor, 1080p video capture,  and a 1.3 MP front facing camera all running on stock Android which should hopefully mean a quick update to Gingerbread and beyond.

If you are looking to stick with or convert to T-Mobile despite the impending acquisition by AT&T the G2X has to be on your very short list for purchase this Spring.

Update: Knslyr in comments shed some light on the discrepancy in shipping options some of you are seeing. You will only see the Saturday and Overnight shipping if you are a buying the phone with a new line of service; apologies to the existing customers looking to upgrade I guess. On a more positive note orders with standard shipping have been getting a 4/18 delivery date.

The only two shipping options I saw were standard ground or 3-day. Where do you see the option for overnight shipping?

    • http://Website jason

Same here, with a delivery date of 4/20 if i ship 3day. Doesn’t help I need the phone shipped to my office 1500 miles away cause I won’t be home till next week either. I’ll just wait, save $20 and walk into my local TMO store. Unless someone spots the Amazon listing.

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

Sorry for causing any confusion. The 3 options that I have are Standard, Overnight and Saturday delivery which indicate delivery on 4/19-4/21, 4/18, or 4/16 respectively. I’ll look into it and update the post to reflect that shipping options may vary.

I bought the G2X in NYC last night and have an order confirmed at 12:49 AM PDT. The site did not go live at 12 Eastern time. Then by time it went live the sales kept failing. Then finally everything went through including $24.00 to deliver on SATURDAY. My bank was charged all was good. I get out of work today to look up my tracking number and nothing. I call and they say “Oh sorry…we are so busy we are not going to be delivering to you tomorrow. It probably wont be until Tuesday…but you can’t cancel. Hell if I wanted the phone tuesday I would have waited and bought it in the store on the 20th. Now my card has been charged, no shipment, maybe tuesday delivery, and i get what? a free accessory….Tmobile better get their crap together…..

That beast will make the evo 3d its bitch!! Kinda like dick yarrell is to his master. : )

    • http://Website UniqueNate

Are you serious? Both dual core not to mention the Evo 3D is 1.2ghz. Bigger screen and I could go on. You must be a pure fanboy. Both handsets are awesome. Would of been better if this was Gingerbread but still the fact it is stock is sweet. I think your a little to excited. The Nexus S still stands strong without dual core. Performs lovely on a daily basis. Dual core is sweet and I will get me one(SGSII only dual core I’ve seen flying in every area) but it’s a little hyped.

      • http://Website Frank

Wait till the dev community opens this b!tch up and tears the hell outta its competition! All it takes is a sweet custom rom, overclocking and a paltry 1.2 ghz can kiss my @ss!

      • http://Website Mike V.

ARM Cortex A9 1 Ghz > Than ARM Cortex A8 1.2 Ghz. The dual core Snapdragon processor is still stuck on the Scorpion architecture that’s been used in the past 2 Snapdragon single core chips, which is based off the ARM Cortex A8 architecture, whereas Tegra 2 uses a dual core ARM Cortex A9 CPU, which makes the Tegra 2 processor faster by default. So the T-Mobile G2x is by default a more powerful smartphone than the EVO 3D, but they will both be great phones.

Tegra 2 has optimized games for the GeForce GPU that Samsung Exynos, Snapdragon or TI OMAP can’t play.

  • http://Website Octavio

What would you guys recommend this or the sensation?

    • http://Website LetsBeReal

      I’m taking this G2X sure.

I could care less about HTC Sense cuz I’m running CM7 either way.

After playing with the Thunderbolt I also realized that a 4.3″ screen is just too big for me.

512 MB RAM could’ve been upgraded but it still runs completely fine and smoooth (check out Youtube videos).

FFC has grown on me and this has 1.3MP FFC > Sensation’s 0.3MP.

And finally, I’m not stating this as fact, but the Sensation will be the first running that processor while the Tegra 2 is on multiple phones already so it will be better optimized (as if it isn’t already ;).. Tegra 2 processor is a beassst!)

      • http://Website Octavio

That’s what I was thinking, but is cyanogenmod support official?

        • http://Website LetsBeReal

They’re already working on it with the LG Optimus 2x which is pretty much the same phone. A lot of CM devs are waiting for the G2X in the U.S. (many have announced it) so once it releases, it shouldn’t be much of a wait.

Even better, paulobrien already has a rom for it (He’s an icon in the android community.)

Even bettttterrr, there’s already a One-Click-Root for the phone.. Super easy! This decision is done for me — G2x baby :D

I am an HTC fan. XDA lives to play with HTC phones and honestly I think HTC likes it too! But even If you planned on keeping it “as is” though the Sensation isn’t a bad option. Sense is improving with each iteration, it has a 1.2mp front cam which isn’t that bad, above that it is all personal choice. We can’t even state that software updates will be faster on the G2X due to it having the stock OS since the G2 is still running 2.2 while the Evo and T-bolt have announced their upgrades coming. If the Sensation had NFC I would be totally happy with buying it outright. For now though I am going to hold off on both of them for a month or so just to see what else is coming out. If nothing else catches my eye, I will be a Sensation owner.

      • http://Website Farhan

Sensation has a 0.3MP VGA front cam not 1.2MP. Also from the hands-on video of the Sensation from HTCs London even, it does seem to have NFC. You can see the NFC contacts when the guy opens up the phone.

  • http://Website jbn

Depends on which one will work on att I’m sure they both will

    • http://www.facebook.com/suatae Suatae

The G2X can actually run under both T-Mobile and AT&T :)
      Specs from gsmarena: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100 / 1700

  • http://Website snowbdr89

Far from a fan boy an there really isn’t much of a difference between 1000 compared to 1.2 an I could really careless about dual core or 3d my rooted tbolt does just fine.

  • http://Website Fishstick

I bought one online for my wife. There was a UPS ground option and a UPS Express 3 day. I chose the 3 day for $25. Do you have to call to get overnight shipping? I talked to the customer retention department a few weeks ago and even the would no give me overnight shipping.

The estimated delivery is 4/18 in my email I received after ordering.

    • http://Website Chris

I think the people who chose the $5.99 shipping option are also getting 4/18 date in confirmation email.

      • http://Website Fishstick

Mine is out for delivery today. Did the people who paid $5.99 get theirs out the door already? If so I will be a little upset at paying extra.

  • http://Website Knslyr

FYI: You can ONLY get Saturday Delivery or Overnight shipping (for Monday delivery) if you are ordering the G2X as a phone for a new line of a NEW ACCOUNT.

I went round and round with TMobile today about it.

Their “Sales” department has the “Saturday” and “Overnight” shipping options, but they do NOT have the ability to sell the phone by itself, only with a new line/account.

Their “Customer Service” department which handles existing accounts/customers can sell you the phone by itself (or with a new line added to your account,) but does NOT have the ability to select anything sooner than three business day shipping.

So the earliest that existing (loyal) customers can get the phone is Wednesday… which is crap if you ask me.

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

Thanks for the tip. Bizarre way to treat your customers.

  • http://Website Trey

well shit..it is a toss up but fuck dat I trust htc…been wit dem for awhile…htc sensation is da way to go… actually has a 1.2 mp ffc…more ram too..i dont mind da screen size…but I do have big hands so bigger prolly would b better…

    • http://Website LetsBeReal

Are you releasing a new version of the phone? That’ll be nice, but according to the official HTC Product Specifications site, it has a VGA front-facing camera (meaning 0.3MP). Just helping you out with the facts :)

    • http://teleknEsis.net teleknEsis

Stick with HTC if you don’t have any plans to root the phone – otherwise you may want to start looking into the new bootloader security that is becoming standard for HTC phones and realize that a lot of devs are jumping ship out of distaste for this new horrible practice. I love my N1, but eff HTC and their bootloader security

      • http://www.facebook.com/suatae Suatae

I agree. I have a rooted N1 with CM7 and I too love it! That’s why I am very pleased with the stock android on the G2X.

  • http://Website skeeterflea

I’ve been waiting for this for almost as long as I waited for the G1, well it feels that way anyway. But now I’m starting to think that I might try to hold out for the Nexus 3. I currently own a G1 with CM6 and it’s good at being a phone with web browsing. Not much for playing games (NESoid works well though). But because when I add in the ATT variable to the mix, I’m not comfortable making another 2 year commitment to Tmo just yet.

  • http://Website JPunky

OMG i want this phone so bad but my contract isn’t over yet :(

  • http://Website Sdotunome

I work at t-mobile and played with this phone for an entire shift. Its amazing and the smoothness is uncomparable if you ask me. I still want the galaxy s2…. but after playing with it.. i don’t know.

G1 user: If get this phone and don’t want to go under At&t, could it be unlocked & go with another carrier?

    • http://Website Travis

No. There will be no other GSM carrier once the acquisition goes through.

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

Sure in theory, but the only other GSM carriers left will be regional MVNOs.

  • http://Website jill

i ordered mine laste last night/early this morning and I already have a tracking number. Since i am in GA and it ships from La Grange, GA, I should have mine on Monday with no extra expedited shipping expense!

My girlfriend is NOT looking forward to me getting this phone, because it will have my undivided attention for a week straight. This is what I’m upgrading to from my Motorola Cliq. Goodbye Cliq. We had some good times together.

    • http://Website Frank

I feel ya buddy! Im doing the same exact thing..upgrading from my Cliq. LOL idk how many times I’ve been tempted to toss it at the wall..grrrrr! My first Android experience has been with my Cliq but yes it’s a must that I transgress to a “true” Android experience :D

  • http://Website JD

Ugh, I like the look of the HTC way better, and I prefer HTC anyway. I have a N1 with cm7, so I’m kind of content. However, I have an upgrade just itching to be scratched, and with this phone just sitting out there with vanilla android, CM support… well…I just don’t know what I’ll do.

    • http://www.facebook.com/suatae Suatae

I’m in the same boat and I’ve decided to get it. Plus, it can be used fully with AT&T, just in case the merger goes through :)

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

Nice problem to have at least, which awesome phone should I pick?

  • http://Website n1

Yet another sucky review of this device.
There are rumors that the quad band 3G is in fact a LIE – why can’t a single one of these retarded bloggers actually TEST the device.
You would think that it is kind of a big story if a carrier LIES about their most anticipated phone of the year ….

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

This wasn’t a review of the phone, it was just to notify people that a device they might have been waiting for can be purchased now.

As for the truth of it being a quad-band device this post went up days before that rumor started and I am looking into what information is out there. At the moment there has been no final confirmation either way.

Got this phone a week and a half ago. It’s sick fast!!!! I have all the apps I’ll ever need on it and it hasn’t missed a beat. The only thing I see lacking on this phone is a LED light. This is needed in order to notify the user of any messages after the screen times out. Other than that, it’s a pretty smooth smartphone.
