HTC Sensation officially announced, coming to T-Mobile this summer (Update: launch event video)

If you have been following Android news, you have surely been hearing rumors about the HTC Pyramid for months. Today, this device was officially announced by HTC at a special event held in London, and it is actually named the “HTC Sensation.” Short after the Sensation’s unveiling, T-Mobile announced that they will be carrying the device in the U.S., personally calling it the HTC Sensation 4G.

HTC Sensation 4G Specifications:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread / New Sense UI (Like the one on the EVO 3D)
  • 4G Capable
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snaptdragon processor
  • 768 MB of RAM memory
  • 1 GB of internal memory (microSD up to 32 GB)
  • 4.3-inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen / qHD resolution at 960×540
  • Gorilla Glass
  • 8 MP rear-facing camera (1080p recording) / 1.2 MP front-facing camera
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n,  along with bluetooth 3.0

The HTC Sensation has a very solid exterior, built with gorilla glass and an aluminum unibody, so this would be a great option for those that are a bit harsher on their devices. Now, on the inside, this gadget is definitely sporting some impressive specs as well, not to mention the newest version of Sense UI, and many of you will surely be planning to make this your next device. If you would like to get your hands on this bad boy, T-Mobile will be releasing it this summer, and though the price is not announced yet, we can expect it to go for at least $199.99, which is what new high-end smartphones typically cost, on a 2-year contract, that is.

HTC has given us two videos on this device, and they are posted below for you to drool on. Also, check out the press release, and let us know what you think about the HTC Sensation 4G!

Update

HTC has uploaded a video of the HTC Sensation launch event, so if you are considering this device, go check out what the manufacturer has to say about it! The video is posted below, along with the promotional videos.

Show Press Release

HTC UNVEILS MULTIMEDIA SUPERPHONE,

THE HTC SENSATIONâ„¢ 4G

HTC brings one of its most advanced smartphones ever to the United States, exclusively for T-Mobile customers.

BELLEVUE, Wash. – April 12, 2011 – HTC Corp., a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today introduced the HTC Sensation 4G, a smartphone that shines a spotlight on entertainment with HTC’s new HTC Watchâ„¢ video service. Crafted with premium design elements, the HTC Sensation 4G features the company’s latest customer-focused HTC Senseâ„¢ experience that puts people at the center by making their smartphones work in a more simple and natural way. The HTC Sensation 4G will be available in the U.S. exclusively from T-Mobile USA beginning this summer.

“Consumers have quickly transformed smartphones into consumer lifestyle hubs – pocket-sized entertainment centers that enable people to take their favorite multimedia content with them wherever they go. The new HTC Watch service makes it fun and easy for people to access premium movies and TV shows while on the go,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corp. “The HTC Sensation 4G combines this great multimedia experience with the latest HTC Sense experience in a premium device that delivers a powerful and unprecedented smartphone to our customers.”

“The HTC Sensation 4G delivers the ultimate in speed and entertainment on America’s Largest 4G network,” said Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president of marketing for T-Mobile USA. “With a lightning-fast, dual-core processor and 4G speeds, customers will experience the difference when accessing rich media and content on the HTC Sensation 4G’s beautiful qHD display. We look forward to adding the HTC Sensation 4G to our industry-leading lineup of 4G smartphones.”

Premium Design and Materials

Tapping into HTC’s trademark design language, the HTC Sensation 4G’s premium look and feel is enhanced by its rounded edges and aluminum unibody construction, and the touch screen surface is protected by a contoured screen that feels more natural as a finger glides across it.The 4.3-inch qHD display delivers high-resolution widescreen viewing and gives the HTC Sensation 4G slender proportions that feel natural in a person’s hand. At the heart of the HTC Sensation 4G beats a powerful, 1.2-gigahertz, dual-core, Qualcomm® Snapdragonâ„¢ processor, which enables gorgeous graphics and all-around fast performance.

HTC Sense

Complementing the HTC Sensation 4G’s premium design is the latest HTC Sense experience that boasts a host of new features and enhancements, helping people have more fun and get more done. For instance, HTC Sense introduces a customizable active lock screen experience that transforms the lock screen into a real-time window to the most important information and content, such as social updates, photos, weather or stock updates that are viewed by simply waking up the display. In addition, the new active lock screen becomes a customizable gateway, which lets people quickly jump to the most-used features, such as making a phone call, sending an email, taking a picture or anything else, with the same quick gesture usually used to unlock the phone. For instance, the camera can be launched right from the lock screen with a single motion, saving precious seconds when you’re trying to capture the action. Sharper graphics, vibrant animations and new widgets make HTC Sense look better than ever and, by continuing to focus on all of the aspects, both large and small, that make HTC Sense special, HTC introduces a more cinematic and immersive weather experience with stunning imagery and audible weather effects.

HTC Sense also makes it easy to have fun by enabling people to capture and share special moments. The HTC Sensation 4G’s 8-megapixel camera doesn’t just shoot gorgeous photos – with the new instant capture feature, it lets people capture the moments they want without worrying about missing or keeping up with the action. The HTC Sensation also shoots full HD video in 1080p resolution, with full stereo sound, at up to 30 frames per second, giving you smooth video that is better than many other phones. With the new Video Trimmer tool, people can crop their clips to the perfect size for easy sharing with friends and family.

HTC Watch

The HTC Sensation 4G is a smartphone that is built from the ground up for a sophisticated, evolved multimedia experience. The 4.3-inch widescreen display means that users can watch movies like they were meant to be seen – in their full cinematic glory, with no cropping or letterboxing. The HTC Sensation 4G is also the first smartphone to feature HTC Watch – an application and service that puts an entire library of the latest, premium movies and TV shows right at your fingertips, letting people discover the latest video content in an easy and visually engaging way. HTC Watch uses progressive download technology that makes it possible to watch videos without waiting for a huge file to finish downloading. HTC Watch offers the choice of renting or buying videos and, if purchased, lets you watch them on up to five different HTC devices.

U are definitely on the wrong website.

Edgar, this vs the G2x. Which do you think is better in your opinion. Put aside the fact that this one ships with 2.3.

    • http://Website sherifffruitfly

gah I was about to ask the exact same thing!

    • Edgar Cervantes

Personally, I would choose the Sensation because of the faster processor, higher RAM, and bigger screen. Those might be things that you don’t really mind too much though. Also, the HTC Sensation comes with Sense UI, which is something I don’t mind, but some people hate it.

    • http://teleknesis.net teleknEsis

Personally I am going for the G2x for a couple of reasons:

      1. More hacker-friendly. Don’t like what HTC has started doing with bootloader security and MoDaCo states that trend will continue with the Sensation.

      2. CM Support – kmobs has said as much already

      3. Quad-band so I won’t have trouble selling the device in a couple years if the AT&T/T-Mobile merger does in fact go through

      4. I’ve been seeing people saying they really like the IPS display on the G2x and that it’s great in direct sunlight – something my N1 suffers dearly from

  • http://Website Mark

    But does it have NFC?

  • uzunoff

So is Sense UI + Android 2.3 better than the 2.2 Vanilla?
I guess if you root it and mod it, that doesn’t really matter at all. It is an HTC device so it is guarantee to root easily. I am sure most ROMs will support it too.
As far as the specs, I think they are better in every way than the G2X.
Now if I could only hold back for a few more months to wait for this phone.
And again, I would ask the same question that Mark did, Does it have NFC?

If you would like to keep your phone for at least 2 years and possibly pass it down to a family member after, I would say NFC is a must have.

  • krazytrixxxsta

FINALLY!!! now I can put my mytouch3g to rest. tmo better not f%#k this up. it felt like an eternity waiting for tmo to get a high end htc android phone with a 4.3 screen and the real htc sense on it and not that espresso bull$#!t.

  • http://Website GRRemlin

The phone looks so thin.. I’m afraid that the battery in it will not be able to support the 4.3″ screen and dual core for long enough…. and I’ll be darned if I have to recharge my phone after 15 minutes of Angry Birds…

    • http://Website JaylanPHNX

The battery is reported to be 1540mA/h, which if I remember correctly is a little bigger than the EVO (the most popular 4.3 screened device) and since it doesn’t have to run a second radio for WiMax, it should beat that for battery life easily. Theoretically.

  • http://Website hector

Yes!!!! My next phone definitely. Not crazy about sense but its not like cm7 wont get on this pretty quickly

  • http://Website Richard Yarrell

Honestly it’s amazing how technology keeps speeding along at such a rate that we all can only sit back and watch. Htc has done nothing but a wonderful job with their flagship devices both the Htc Evo 3d and Htc Sensation they will be both be the top devices in the industry when they launch. This Htc Sensation is much better than the Lg Gx2 why because of 1.2 ghz dualcore processor, and 768 of ram compared to Lg Gx2 1.0 ghz dualcore processor and 512 of ram. Plus Htc sense beats anything Lg has by country miles. This Sensation is definitely a Evo 3d clone the best thing Htc could’ve done for tmobile. If people on tmobile don’t hop on this device then Htc should stop making devices for tmobile. This device is a step below the Evo 3d that’s for sure but still better than any other device. It says a lot when a manufacturer can make another manufacturer go back to the drawing board like Htc has done to Samsung with their Galaxy S2 which was 1.0ghz at MWC now all of a Sutton they are rolling out 1.2ghz with a new touch wiz ui. Htc has BOUGHT OUT THE THUNDER IN THE EVO 3D AND NOW THE SENSATION. PEOPLE BETTER GET ON BOARD NOW.

    • http://Website mike

Actually the evo is a clone as this phone has been in existence for longer.since late 2009

      • http://Website Greg

Not only that, the specs of the Sensation are clearly superior to the EVO 3D’s. That is, unless taking 3D pictures is a top priority…haha

    • http://Website JaylanPHNX

The MT4G was one of the first HTC phones to not suffer from HTC’s previous reputation for poor cameras. Hopefully this is one of the first to truly break their reputation for crappy external speakers (something the MT4G suffers heavily from).

  • http://Website jampac9

Tough choice between this and g2x, but i don’t see a huge difference for me at least. Screen size is good on both and gingerbread will be out shortly for the g2x. Both have pretty good RAM and lots of space for everything i need. I’m loyal to HTC but I only like stock. Man???? I’ll leave it up to impulse on the 20th when I’m in a store to make the decision to retire my nexus one, but either on won’t be a bad choice. UNLESS THE 4G SPEEDS ARE DIFFERENT, any one knows the answer to that?

  • http://blackkristos.blogspot.com Black Kristos

I, too am very curious about the battery. It’ll have to be a lot closer to the EVO 3D battery for me to get it. Everything else sounds great and as long as the battery is > 1400 I may not dump T-Mobile.

  • http://Website Thrillhouse15

HTC has the specs on their site (http://www.htc.com/www/product/sensation/specification.html) that says that the internal phone storage is just 1 gb, not 4. Is the 4 gb cited above the total phone storage, but only 1 gb is available for apps?

Also, am I understanding right that this phone would work on ATT’s network if/when the merger happens?

    • http://Website metafor

The supported radio frequencies include 850, 1700 and 2100, so it should run on both AT&T and T-Mobile.

      • http://Website Anonymous

Given the frequencies you stated (850, 1700, 2100) then this phone will work on AT&T’s 2G Edge network. AT&T uses 1900 and not 1700. The 1700 is used by T-Mobile.

Who knows what the frequencies will be once the merger (hopefully doesn’t) passes.

  • http://Website Dneff

Its a great phone, only thing is it didn’t support hdmi output, so I will just get the g2x root it and get a2.1 sense rom

    • http://inventurous.net Val-Zho

Actually, the connectors section of the specs page reads, “micro-USB 2.0 (5-pin) port with mobile high-definition video link (MHL) for USB or HDMI connection”

      • http://Website Dneff

Ur right,i just read the specs it says “special cable needed for hdmi,” so yes I will get this instead of the g2x. Thanks for the comment cause I wouldn’t have checked the specs.

Battery life has to be better…

    • http://Website JaylanPHNX

One big difference (other than dual-core) is that the EVO 4G uses a separate radio for WiMax. HSPA+, being just an enhanced 3G, doesn’t burn nearly as much juice.

Honestly I’ll take the 8MP camera and 1080p recording ability over two 5MP cameras that record 3D. I’m sure 3D is fun and all but its so new that the content would be way to limited to make it a worthy trade off for a better single camera with a 2D display.

I just don’t see what the appeal is in a 3D device. I can’t imagine myself wanting to use one for very long periods of time (I can already feel the headache); and it sounds like a great way to drain a battery.

If a 3D phone is your cup of tea then I hope you enjoy it, it’s just not for me.

As for this phone, I really like it. I will most likely get it. Real Sense, not the mySense/Espresso that T-Mobile usually gets. And it’s GingerSense. I have GingerSense flashed on my G2, and it is absolutely awesome. Perhaps this will be released in June, like the myTouch 3G Slide & Evo were last year.

Actually the evo is a clone as this phone has been in existence for longer.since late 2009

      • GregGuest 4 years ago

Not only that, the specs of the Sensation are clearly superior to the EVO 3D’s. That is, unless taking 3D pictures is a top priority…haha

    • JaylanPHNXGuest 4 years ago

The MT4G was one of the first HTC phones to not suffer from HTC’s previous reputation for poor cameras. Hopefully this is one of the first to truly break their reputation for crappy external speakers (something the MT4G suffers heavily from).

  10. Black KristosGuest 4 years ago

I, too am very curious about the battery. It’ll have to be a lot closer to the EVO 3D battery for me to get it. Everything else sounds great and as long as the battery is > 1400 I may not dump T-Mobile.

  11. Thrillhouse15Guest 4 years ago

    • metaforGuest 4 years ago

The supported radio frequencies include 850, 1700 and 2100, so it should run on both AT&T and T-Mobile.

      • AnonymousGuest 4 years ago

Given the frequencies you stated (850, 1700, 2100) then this phone will work on AT&T’s 2G Edge network. AT&T uses 1900 and not 1700. The 1700 is used by T-Mobile.

Who knows what the frequencies will be once the merger (hopefully doesn’t) passes.

  12. DneffGuest 4 years ago

Its a great phone, only thing is it didn’t support hdmi output, so I will just get the g2x root it and get a2.1 sense rom

    • Actually, the connectors section of the specs page reads, “micro-USB 2.0 (5-pin) port with mobile high-definition video link (MHL) for USB or HDMI connection”

      • DneffGuest 4 years ago

Ur right,i just read the specs it says “special cable needed for hdmi,” so yes I will get this instead of the g2x. Thanks for the comment cause I wouldn’t have checked the specs.

Why do i feel dumber after reading a dick yarrell post?

    • Richard YarrellGuest 4 years ago

because your just a DUMB ASS anyway…Get lost

    • R.S.Guest 4 years ago

Because that’s what happens when you read a troll’s post. lol

All he ever posts on this site is…

      * Sprint is the best!
      * EVO is the best!
      * Check out this link to this other site.

And every once in a while, when not in full troll mode, he’ll post about how HTC is the best in a not so trollish way. However, a troll is a troll no matter how little he may be trolling at the time.

      • snowbdr89Guest 4 years ago

Dont forget the thunderdud or vzw blasts but i didnt see the troll around when they posted the lte vs wimax test, what a pathetic outcome for wimax!! Oh wait or the tbolt gettin clocked at 1. 8 with benchmarks well over 3000 i have clocked my tbolt at 2.0 but the tbolt is a dud. : )

        • Richard YarrellGuest 4 years ago

Please with the thunderbolt…Fast it is that’s great but when it is on a data only network and the only device at that on the LTE network it should be fast….Sprint offers voice and data on the same network with over 10plus 4g devices running on one network. Sprint pimp slaps your sorry ass verizon anyday you bum…take that thunderdud and sholve it

      • Richard YarrellGuest 4 years ago

Your so bright what does the R.S stand for???? RETARDED SOUL

  14. AM123Guest 4 years ago

Battery is 1520mah, per HTC and other sites.

  15. Richard YarrellGuest 4 years ago

1520 Mah battery not as much as it should be the current evo 4g i have is 1500 mah..what gives??? maybe the battery life will be better afterall their would be no reason for them to come out with a battery that was not better for the device today in comparison to last year. Battery life has to be better…

    • JaylanPHNXGuest 4 years ago

One big difference (other than dual-core) is that the EVO 4G uses a separate radio for WiMax. HSPA+, being just an enhanced 3G, doesn’t burn nearly as much juice.

  18. snowbdr89Guest 4 years ago

@ dick troll please explain why this phone is a step below your david blaine magic kit (evo 3d) is it because its not 3d? Why does anyone care to have a 3d phone dick, so you can watch star trek conventions live in 3d?

    • Richard YarrellGuest 4 years ago

your a dweeb I expect you to act in this manner you wouldn’t appreciate something good if it bitch slapped you. The Evo 3d without the 3d is a perfect device 3d is extra to appreciate but why would you?? Your so far up verizon butt your a sad soul go take your iphone 4 and sholve it up your thunderdud’s butt…..You bum

      • snowbdr89Guest 4 years ago

Let me repeat it again dick please explain what makes the evo 3d a perfect drvice? Oh yeah please explain what sholve means im a little confused on that

        • Richard YarrellGuest 4 years ago

Let me repeat it again….Go jump off a long bridge with your sorry clocked thunderdud on your over priced ripping off network. NOTHING BEATS THIS YOU BUM.. Go take a nap now and leave this site to the big boys. Why don’t you go to your Verizon crappy fan page on facebook and go TROLL OVER THEIR….GET LOST http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImBpcAq1ySQ

      • JonGuest 4 years ago

Honestly I’ll take the 8MP camera and 1080p recording ability over two 5MP cameras that record 3D. I’m sure 3D is fun and all but its so new that the content would be way to limited to make it a worthy trade off for a better single camera with a 2D display.

I just don’t see what the appeal is in a 3D device. I can’t imagine myself wanting to use one for very long periods of time (I can already feel the headache); and it sounds like a great way to drain a battery.

If a 3D phone is your cup of tea then I hope you enjoy it, it’s just not for me.

      W…T…F…?

The hell’s wrong with you people?
This is an Android site for all Android lovers & enthusiasts.
These trolls are freely running amok in here, causing havoc!

We need someone in here to clean up the comments area, and ban the trolls with dimwitted, senseless comments.

And before you trolls respond, I don’t give a flying flip what you have for a comeback, bc you’re still just a (probably either an iPhone loving or anti T-Mobile) troll with stupid & ridiculous remarks.

      ———————————————————————————————

As for this phone, I really like it. I will most likely get it. Real Sense, not the mySense/Espresso that T-Mobile usually gets. And it’s GingerSense. I have GingerSense flashed on my G2, and it is absolutely awesome. Perhaps this will be released in June, like the myTouch 3G Slide & Evo were last year.

  19. NoelGuest 4 years ago

Love the device…nice that it is on Tmo. I just wish it was pure virgin vanilla Android and also unlocked. Well i will likely buy it…but as soon as a pure vanilla Android dual core or quad core device hopefully unlocked and from HTC shows up in the future…i will be all over it.

  20. BGuest 4 years ago

It’s like every site has different info. Is the internal storage 1gig or 4gig?

  23. IchigoGuest 4 years ago

No g2x for me. This is it!!!!!!! Soooooo excited!!! I’m gonna keep calling it the pyramid.

  24. Hopefully they stick both radios like the G2x. That way, in case AT&T does absorb T-Mobile, I’ll still be able to use 3G on their frequencies.

  25. I’m only am going to say this once, trolls, stfu and gtfo, I want to read a topic and not see 3/4 of posts be sh!t. I hope everyone else feels the same way.

Mental Note: find a way to ban all Yarrells.

  32. GerryGuest 4 years ago

i’m glad this phone came to T-Mobile because after the Galaxy S 2 was pushed back i was sure that i was going to be stuck with a unimpressive phone, but with all side by side comparisons this phone is definitely going to be a good challenge
