Google Mobile site gets optimized for better searching

It’s only been a couple weeks since Google revamped its mobile site, adding a location-based system for finding places near you (restaurants, coffee shops, bars, etc.). But the search giant is working around the clock, and today seems like another good day for the Google Mobile site.

Just when I thought my day was over, I went online. And what did I find? Voila, an all-new mobile site from Google with tabbed options at the top (much more like the full Google site) and a set of colorful icons that appear when your finger slides down the screen. These icons work as shortcuts and provide access to Google Images, Places, News, Maps, YouTube and other services. You can see the full list by pressing the “More” button.

This addition will definitely provide a fuller searching experience. The new system works much like it would on a computer. Take a look at the Google Mobile site from your phone browser to see what Mountain View has for us today! Are you guys liking it?

It’s this way on the iPhone too, but not the iPad (at least, not yet).

  Yeah, they updated the mobile site, so it should be the same for different platforms. As long as you access Google through a mobile device’s browser.
  
  As for the iPad, maybe it is accessing the full Google site? Are any of the Android tablet users seeing the same issue?

    Okay, in my Galaxy Tab’s default browser (the 7inch model), the page loads normally. However, if I go to Dolphin HD or Mini and leave the agent as “Android”, it doesn’t load the new look. I switch the agent to iPhone, and I get the new look. The Desktop Agent doesn’t really provide anything special, but the default desktop view of everything. With the iPad agent, it appears to be similar to the desktop.
    
    After all of this is complete, I did a switch back to “Android” as the agent, and it goes back to the original default Google page. Shame.
    
    However, with my Droid, the default browser sees the new look of Google.com just fine, but I do not have any other browsers on that device to test further.

This new Google mobile layout sucks. It keeps going to news without me touching anywhere near news. And it is much slower now.

New layout takes a little bit to load on my Droid X and when i click on the search bar to enter my search, i guess the toolbar is loading and it pops down after i click the searchbar and it acts like i pressed the “Places” button and its just annoying, have to keep pressing back and wait for it to load so i can accurately press the searchbar to enter my search.

p.s. – i said search like 5 times in one sentence haha love bein on 1 !)

Yeah I don’t like how the buttons get bigger, I always accidently touch the news and places icon. I think there should be a choice on whether or not we use this annoying new layout.

I am also frustrated with the new tabs. Whenever I search now, I keep hitting the news tab or something and it goes to that. It may have more to so with the page loading slowly, but either way, Google needs to update that soon.

I agree it’s really annoying. I don’t see why they need to load the icons at all. It would work fine as long as it doesn’t keep popping up!

I have to agree that this new layout sucks. A lot. Another thing I’ve found annoying is that when I touch the search baf And begin typing that it always exits out back to to search page. Only on touching it a second time can I ever search. Wtf? Fix your mistakes Google.
