Rumor: Samsung is working on a Galaxy S II “Plus” phone meant to compete with the iPhone 5

A Samsung Galaxy S II is cool, but you know what’s even cooler? A Samsung Galaxy S II “Plus”. According to a rumor that surfaced this morning, Samsung is working on slightly better version of the Galaxy S II, hence the “Plus” tag.

The device is said to launch between August and September of this year. Also known as right around the time the iPhone 5 is coming out. And this is no coincidence, it’s obvious that Samsung will release this phone mainly to compete with the iPhone 5.

Don’t get too excited though. There’s a reason why this phone will only be a “Plus” version of the Galaxy S II and not a whole new model altogether. So far, the phone is expected to only upgrade the Galaxy S II’s processor. Bringing it from a 1.2 GHz dual-core CPU to a 1.4 GHz dual-core one. Also, it could launch with Android 2.3.4, so you won’t be missing out on that Google Talk with Video goodness. Unless you’re on T-Mobile, of course.

That’s pretty much it. Hopefully, the CPU is not the only thing that the “Plus” improves over the Galaxy S II. I wouldn’t get mad if this Galaxy S II 1.5 phone also had an NFC chip and one of those 720p screens. Now that’s what I call an update. What would you guys want Samsung to improve on the Galaxy S II? Let us know in the comments.
