Netflix app adds support for 16 new Android devices

Back in May when Netflix announced the release of its Android app, the company promised to quickly expand the list of supported devices. And it seems they’re staying true to that promise. Netflix has quietly rolled out support today for a whopping 16 new Android devices, bringing the total number of Netflix-ready Android devices to 24 (new ones in bold). These devices are:

  • Casio G’zOne Commando
  • DROID X by Motorola
  • DROID by Motorola
  • HTC Incredible
  • HTC Nexus One
  • HTC G2
  • LG Revolution
  • Samsung Nexus S
  • HTC DoubleShot
  • HTC Droid Incredible 2
  • HTC EVO 3D
  • HTC Thunderbolt
  • Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet
  • Motorola Atrix
  • Motorola Droid X2
  • Motorola Droid 2
  • Motorola DROID 3
  • Motorola DROID BIONIC
  • Samsung DROID Charge
  • Samsung EPIC 4G
  • Samsung Galaxy S
  • Samsung Galaxy S 4G
  • Samsung Fascinate
  • Samsung Nexus S 4G

If you’re the lucky owner of at least one of these 16 devices, head to the Android Market right now and download the Netflix app. Afterwards, come right back and tell us whether it’s working on your phone or not. We’re hearing reports of the app not working that well on some of these devices. However, I expect Netflix to roll out an update to its app in the near future that will fix most of these issues. Happy streaming!

Attempting to watch movies on my DROID 3 results in green screen scramble, an app reboot, and no working video.

Not working on my Droid 2 Global. I was able to log in just fine but when I go to play a show, it loads and then as it’s about to play, it returns me to the home screen and doesn’t play the video.

    • Nao Nozawa

After Netflix ACTUALLY posted the update, it now works on my Droid 2 Global! Go download the actual update now!

See, when Netflix updated its app listing with more devices this morning, they apparently kinda sorta forgot to actually included the updated app

WWorks on some thunderbolts. Works on mine but not my wife phone.

  • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

    Actually, make that:

it works (as in, it’ll load up and do everything) EXCEPT play the frickin’ video. Results in green screen gobbley-dee-goop and no audio, then the phone reboots itself.

    Working Beautifully on my Vibrant.

  • http://Website Ben

Not working on my Vibrant. I log in and then it instantly crashes. Tried clearing data and cache (couldn’t remember my Netflix password off hand) but it didn’t help.

    • http://Website Ben

Ok, they released an update which helped. The other piece of the puzzle was removing it from my work WiFi network. Don’t ask me why that helped but that is not the first time it has caused problems with an app.

Cool but I think I’ll give that hacked Netflix Hd a try on my EVO 3D. Had the original for awhile, courtesy of XDA.

  • http://Website rev2redlineguy

What about the original HTC Evo 4G? Does Netflix work on it?

    • http://Website Stewart

Yes, EVO 4G was supported on day 1. The gingerbread update broke it though and HTC quickly followed with a new update 5 days later. Netflix followed suit and re-enabled support 2 days later. As long as you are up to date, you can download it from market and it works great.

And how did you accomplish that, sir?

      • http://Website Stewart

If you have a supported device and sdk, download on supported device, then adb pull from /data/app on supported device and adb install on xoom. Otherwise there are several sites hosting the apk. There is a link in the comments.

  • robertrhyne

I’m watching flawless Netflix streaming on my HTC Sensation by using
com.netflix.mediaclient-1.apk from http://forum.xda-developers.com. I got Easy Installer from the Market to install it. Don’t forget to download Flash, too.

    • http://Website Stewart

Evo 4g was one of the first devices supported. As long as your phone is up to date, download from market, login and play.
