Modern Combat 3, “the most engaging war game ever released on smartphones”?

MC3_US_Soldiers_Hollywood-small

What happens when North Korea, Pakistan and Russia team up to launch a terrorist attack on the United States? Android gaming fans will soon find out in Gameloft‘s upcoming Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation.

We already knew the 3rd installment of Modern Combat was coming this fall, but Gameloft just made a blog post that reveals new details in a developer interview and includes concept artworks.

Fallen Nation will center around Corporal James Walker, who will lead his special forces team, Anvil-1, into enemy territory. There they will “confront mercenaries, terrorists and a traitor who will stop at nothing to destroy the nation that he once served.”

Unlike the prequels that contained a lot of corridor action, Modern Combat 3 will be all about large scale war. The game producer describes Fallen Nation as delivering “super large scale fights, something that hasn’t been done on smartphones. We wanted to make a point that smartphone gaming can be as huge and awesome as on any other home console.”

Gameloft recently said they would make four new games using the Unreal Engine 3, and it appears that Modern Combat 3 could be one of them. Another title, March of Heroes, was recently announced as the first Unreal Engine game from Gameloft, but the trailer video was pulled from the web and its current status is unknown.

Hit up the source link for more concept art and the full interview. Does Modern Combat 3 look like it can live up to the developers hype of “the most engaging war game ever released on smartphones”?

Key features of Modern Combat 3 include:

  • Intense 13-mission campaign with immersive cinematics and memorable moments
  • Frantic multiplayer with up to 12 players, 6 maps and 6 different modes
  • Addictive ranking system with more than 90 experience ranks
  • High-tech modern weaponry with modifications and attachments
  • Next-gen high quality visuals that will compete with the RAGE and UNREAL engines

I certainly thought this might be the case otherwise their in house engine is seemingly improved a bit. Andrew at Droid Gamers contacted Gameloft and they said it was their own in house engine.

I read elsewhere too that it’s believed that March of Heroes is cancelled.

Hard to say. I think it should be limited to “the most engaging FPS game released on smartphones”… Maybe, but not likely would be my answer.. This one is at least the first one I “sort of want to” check out as I wasn’t too excited about previous efforts ala Nova, Nova 2, etc. I’m more interested just because it may be their own engine as opposed to Unreal and just poking around with it.. ;P

What kinda specs will this game need?
Though most 1ghz phones are higher spec than the Wii. Which poses more interesting questions about porting all those fun games.. is that even possible? A boy can dream right?

Wow. We’ve never seen this storyline in any other games before. >_>

I only hope its compatible with all my devices., I have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the LG Thrill and half of game lofts games are not compatible with my devices.

luckily I still have my iPhone 4 so still get to play all their games.

Look good, nothing really out of the ordinary for today times, and the history is just so “imaginative”.

I really really hope more good looking games come out. Something along the lines of Crysis 2. I mean, high-end smartphones of next year will rival the PS3 and Xbox 360 in graphical power, won’t they?

I really like what you’ve bought here, certainly like what you’re stating and the best way by which you say it. You make it entertaining and you still care for to stay it wise.
