Got an “Impulse” for a budget-friendly 4G device? Check out the Huawei Impulse 4G

att-generic-sphere-2

Android could have not made it to 550,000 activations a day without the good ol’ low-end devices. In fact, most avid Android fans used a budget-friendly smartphone when getting their feet wet on the Android platform. Huawei is known for manufacturing affordable smartphones, and AT&T has a new one for you today.

The Huawei Impulse 4G is one of the most pocket-friendly devices available for AT&T customers. This little guy can be yours for the low price of $29.99 on a 2-year contract. And while it’s no superphone, it can probably take care of users without too many expectations. The specs are not too bad for $30. And it has HSPA+ bands, so it’ll have a speedy internet connection.

Huawei Impulse 4G Specifications

  • Android 2.2 Froyo
  • 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor
  • 3.8-inch display
  • 4G-capable (HSPA+)
  • 5 MP rear-facing camera (with 720p video recording)

Not many details are provided, but we can expect this device to be as good as last year’s mid-range to high-end devices. Honestly, that’s not bad at all–especially with that price tag. What do you guys think? Anyone getting this? Maybe for your parents, kids, girlfriend, etc.? Do you like the idea of having a 4G device for only $30?

Shipping phones with 2.2 is just sad. I dont care if its for people just getting a smartphone, they deserve the latest software too.

A lot of people, well online anyways, talk about fragmentation. However, what does having 2.2 vs 2.3.x mean to the end user? I’m sure there is a million things that Gingerbread has that 2.2 doesn’t. However, for me (on 2.3.4), the only thing I can appreciate is GTalk video.
Which means, that I’m probably missing out on something.
What do you have with Gingerbread that Froyo can’t do?

Eh, I mean, after using a Huawei Ascend for a while I was really disappointed. These specs seem pretty solid though. I guess I’m happy for cheaper android phones! ^_^

This really isn’t a bad phone at all. To me it seems like a keyboardless G2(spec wise). Same processor, size screen, and HSPA+. I know my G2 is a solid handset. The specs are all there, I just don’t know about Huawei’s build quality, as I have never owned one of their handsets.

This phone and phones like it will continue to push Android up. Choices for every tier of ones budget. The best part of this is that it seems to be running Vanilla Android…albeit it’s 2.2. I believe most people who would be spending the 50$ for a phone really don’t care too much about updates. They are happy they got an Android handset…not to mention high speed data access.

Yeah, I actually thought of the G2 when I saw this, as well. The G2 is not a bad device at all… I do not think it is a bad price for a device with those specs, especially with 4G connectivity.

Same CPU as the G2? I wonder if it can overclocked to 1.5ghz or even 1.9ghz and remain stable, like on the G2. It’s a damn good CPU. I love my G2

Stock Froyo will run great on those specs.

5 MP rear-facing camera (with 720p video recording). Sigh… my Nexus S can’t do 720P, out the box anyways.

Not a bad looking device for someone just getting into the smartphone world..

This pales in comparison to the most successful smartphone ever, the iPhone 4. No thx.

Its pretty if they less their amount or they gonna sale this item.

I think this is same as Ideos X5 or U8800 and there is Android 2.3.5 port in XDA developer for it. The MIUI Desire Z port port is also available, which I am currently running on my Ideos X5. It is great phone with Adreno 205 GPU which is same in SE Xperia Play. So, I think it is great phone with less price.

Stock vanilla Android too?? Hmmm.. take note Moto!
