Motorola counts down ’til latest Android phone is overshadowed by Samsung just hours later

Droid RAZR

In a little under 24 hours, Motorola will unveil their latest Android superphone in New York, the Verizon Droid RAZR. Normally, we’d be super excited to cover this launch event, but Motorola faces the unfortunate task of competing with Samsung and their Galaxy Nexus announcement just hours later.

Both devices will be available on Verizon Wireless around the same time and offer similar hardware specs and performance, but the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will have one major advantage: Android 4.0. Motorola might have a few surprises with the Droid RAZR, and I’m certain it will get Android 4.0 sometime next year. But I think the only people choosing this phone over the Samsung option will be the hardcore Motorola loyalists.

Check out the Motorola reveal site for the latest info on the Droid RAZR and let us know what you think. Will any Verizon customers go with this slightly-updated-Bionic? Or will you wait it out for Samsung and the first device with Ice Cream Sandwich?

Update: Kellen of Droid-life just posted an image that was abstracted from the teaser site. Check out the Droid RAZR in its full glory below.

all i have to say is… what bad timing. very bad time timing.. you think maybe they are pitching toward the older crowd.. Maybe they think the name will draw some familiarity with some and thus sell a bit

You guys forget that Google OWNS Motorola. This was surely planned and discussed. I’m sure.

You forget that Google is keeping them separate…

dam what a shame with the timing i think this would of had a big impact like the original droid did only thing that bothers me with the moto droids is that lip in the back why not just a sleek soild design otherwise very nice looking phone

This does look to be a nice phone, also has some Droid X shape factor with it as well. Verizon is just pushing wayyyy to many phones out. Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Rhyme, Motorola Droid RAZR, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and HTC Rezound. I am eyeing both the Rezound and Galaxy Nexus. But, since as of right now, the “Galaxy” Nexus is skinned, I’ll probably be looking more at the Rezound.

The phone look cool, but I’m getting the Nexus tho.
