Adobe Flash Player 11 and AIR3 set to debut tonight sans Stage3D

adobe-gaming

A few weeks back, we reported that the new version of Adobe Flash Player (Flash 11) could be 1,000 times faster than Flash 10, and that the update would be available sometime in “early-October.” At their Adobe MAX 2011 conference today, Adobe announced that both Flash 11 and AIR 3 (the tool that allows for easy installation of applications) will be available for download tonight at midnight eastern time.

What greatly fuels the increased performance is Stage3D, a new method of 2D and 3D rendering. Sadly, the mobile versions of Flash Player 11 will not feature Stage3D until a later update, so it’s unclear how much of a performance improvement Flash Player 11 will bring until the update.

Regardless of what exactly the updates will bring for mobile devices right away, Adobe’s Flash platform is embedded in many of the things we do on our Android devices. Whether or not you stay up until midnight to get your hands on Flash Player 11, you’ll certainly want to update to the latest version over the next few days.

To read more about Flash Player 11 and AIR 3, check out Taylor’s original post about the platforms (including some video content), and/or head over to the following Adobe sites:

Yes FP 11 will be out tonight for android, but it will not feature the Stage3D side, just the basic Flash side. The Stage3D will be coming in the next few updates and then we will see a bigger performance boost to Flash content, but how much over plain 11 and 10.3 wont be known till the Stage3D update comes out.

Well I guess I won’t get TOO excited until Stage3D is released for mobile devices then. Still, great to see how Adobe continues to push flash forward.

Can’t wait to try this out. Kinda sad to hear about the lack of Stage3D but at least it will be something else to look forward to.

Stage 3D functionality will be available as part of Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 for Windows, Mac, and connected TV devices immediately. We plan to support Stage3D for mobile devices in the first half of 2012.

I’m developing a game that works on Flash11, first of all I try to open Stage3D, if it isn’t available I use my own 3D engine. Could this work also on this version of Flash 11? (so the API to create Stage3D is available but it returns that it could not be opened).
