Motorola RAZR will be updated to Android 4.0 in early 2012

Samsung will have a couple months to enjoy their time in the sun as the only manufacturer with Ice Cream Sandwich phones, but Motorola isn’t asleep at the wheel. They’ve announced their plans to bring Android 4.0 to their new flagship device “at the start of 2012.”

Alain Mutricy, Senior Vice President of Portfolio and Product Management at Motorola, made this statement to European press today which may indicate that this timeline is specifically for the European version of the RAZR. We can only hope that Verizon’s customizations and notoriously rigorous testing don’t hold up the Droid RAZR too long.

No word, unfortunately, on upgrades for the existing lineup. Hopefully they’ll feel the pressure to tell us something, since HTC has at least thrown us a bone on their Android 4.0 plans.
