US Galaxy Nexus to launch after November 17

Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus

Telegraph is reporting that the flagship Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich device, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, will not be launching in the United States until after the European launch on November 17. Telegraph indicated that Samsung confirmed a later US launch at the Galaxy Note launch.

We do have reason to be a tad suspicious of this claim, however. As you may recall, a screenshot taken from Verizon’s internal MAP system suggested that the Galaxy Nexus could launch as early as November 10, a full week before the European launch date.

If this rumor turns out to be true, it will certainly disappoint several US folks who are impatiently waiting for the next Nexus device to launch, though we expect that a US launch would come a mere days after the European launch. You US would-be Nexus owners will likely have your devices in hand to show off around the Thanksgiving table.

I’ve reached out to folks at Verizon Wireless and Samsung to see if they’d care to comment on the US launch date of the Galaxy Nexus, and will update this post when if we hear anything back. We do think that a release date of 11/11/11 would be fitting for a device of this caliber, though I think we may be let down on that one. Stay tuned!

Oh pleeeeease dont delay this phone :(

  • Derek

Why would the US have to wait until after Europe gets it? This is getting ridiculous. The US has the worlds largest smartphone market. Yet Europe gets the SGS2 6 months before the US? Now Google, and American company, is launching their premiere device in Europe first? What’s up with that?

    • Tim

To be fair, the SGSII ran into legal issues in the US which led to the delay of it’s release. Blame Apple for that one, not Samsung or Google.

      • Slith

        Wonderful patent system at work!

      • http://www.jeffkibuule.com Jeff

Legal issues? Show me some proof of that.

SGSII was released later because carriers asked for custom versions, much like the Galaxy S last year.

        • Gabe

That’s right! If US carriers didn’t differentiate the SGS2 device (with WiMax, 42MBps-HSPA+ radios), it would have been released in March like the rest of the world.. (I can’t explain AT&T’s reason for the slow release…)

    • Visitor

Usually it’s Europe which has to wait a long time to get features or things which have long been available in the US, so stop complaining a little bit, you’re not the center of the world.

I understand why you’re sad, but personally I find it very fair, thanks Samsung ;-)

  • http://keridel.blogspot.com keridel

i generally hope it doesnt take long for you to guys to get it.

i know i’m looking forward to it.

  • Arber

You guys need to calm down its just a rumor.

  • Joshua

    NOOOOOOO!!!!!!! We’ve waited enough!

  • http://www.androidworld.nl Yorick

This is not even a rumor. It’s a fact stated by Samsung during the presentation of the Galaxy Note in London. They said that Europe will get it November 17th and the rest of the world after that.

    • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

haha…okay…okay. I removed the rumor tag. We still have conflicting information on the U.S. release date, and reps at press events have been known to blunder from time to time.

      • Slith

Or the 17th is the release on multiple carriers while Verizon gets a week exclusive.

  • Louis

This delay and no clear release dates for most Android flagships is really getting out of hand!! How hard is it to give fix dates for releases. Major competitors do, why not android?? bs.com

    • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

I don’t exactly think this would constitute a “delay,” since we haven’t had an official release date that hasn’t been “sometime in November”

  • triangle

Verizon usually releases devices on a Thursday. Since they probably won’t release anything on Thanksgiving, the 17th would seem to be the most likely date if they wanted to do it before the holiday.

In this case, who knows since it’s google’s show. Maybe they’ll pull an apple and google will mandate a release on a friday, so that 11/11/11 may work. Let’s just hope it’s before Thanksgiving…

  • BiGMERF

I watched the Samsung show in London and they specifically said “launching DEC,17th in Europe and sometime after to the rest of the world”. I dont know how its new news?

As a Tmobile user I am frustrated on many fronts

    1. Europe getting the phone first?! whoah what? Google is a U.S company? Why?

    2. The lack of Info from either Google or Samsung is ridiculous

    3. Potential Verizon exclusivity! Why?!

I say everyone gets on twitter and slam @samsungmobileus with questions…

    • Mark

Calm down, T-Mobile will get it. It’s inevitable. It’s just a phone.

  • SherlockHomeboy

Every delay they have just makes it more likely that regular consumers will go for another device instead of the Galaxy Nexus. GIVE IT TO US NOW GOOGLE!

    • R.S

I might end up as one of those consumers that end up going with a different phone. Not just because of them jerking us around but mostly because my phone crapped out on me.
Only reason I haven’t is because I haven’t had a chance to visit my local T Mobile store.

Does Apple have a patent on how to properly announce and release phones?!

  • Starship

Well on the bright side, The longer the delay, the easier it will be to negotiate moving my New every two upgrade up closer (currently at 12/29/11 :-/ )

  • Mike B

Hey all – I am a current iPhone 4 user, but I’m seriously considering switching to Android when this phone comes out – any words of wisdom / pointers about switching over? Thanks =)

    • anonymous

No wisdom needed, really. Once you’ve had Android, there’s no going back.

    • Seth

Don’t get overwhelmed by the freedom. Having so many choices can be scary for some people. Just take it slow and remember to breathe.

  • AppleFUD

I have to say that it is rather pathetic that Google and Samsung can’t co-ordinate a global launch and give dates during the device announcement. The only thing they are accomplishing with the vague BS is for people to give up and buy something else.

I guess I should conclude that it’s months away because they aren’t saying anything and just get a different device. . . . Seriously, what is this? Amateur hour?

  • hey

Hey Google and Samsung , while you guys are delaying the launch why not overclock the CPU to 1.5 ghz too.

    • Richard Yarrell

You know something with all this information going on I totally have to say that would be so great. That would be so kool if they slipped that in.. Great thought on your part..

    • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

It’s not delayed, and you can bet they were in production mode well before now, so there won’t be any hardware changes.

    • DoNo

Yes, Google and Samsung, delay the launch another year or two and make it 2GHz. And hope that consumers will continue to partake in the guessing game you are playing.

In the meantime, I am going to the store to buy a different device.

  • http://droidsamurai.blogspot.com DroidSamurai

Let’s hope that they only mean the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus.

  • Seth

If they delay too long they’re going to lose sales to HTC and Moto. The RAZR preorder email is sitting in my inbox silently tempting me with carbon fiber and an SD slot….

Personally I think preorder opportunity will start November 10th and release date will be either November 18th or 25th. Either way I am definitely ready.

  • Nathan

Well hopefully they wouldn’t make us wait to long, like I side before I’m getting tired of this cat and mouse game about the release date on this flagship phone. If it is a huge phone for both Google and Samsung why don’t they have this work out already?

  • http://whosthisguy.com Brendan

Meanwhile I’ll sit and twiddle my thumbs until a Canadian carrier (please let it be Bell) announces a release.

  • tomeindahouse

Yeah, if they delay this thing any more they need to up the specs. Better GPU, overclock the processor and 8mp camera… Just sayin

  • sladluk

Well, I preordered my Galaxy Nexus and am waiting for shipping. It will arrive till 11/24. :)

    • J-Man

Did you order it from Amazon? I wouldn’t necessarily trust those prices to be the exact ones on launch. But then again, I want to see if it’ll be 550 pounds unlocked in Europe, and whether it’ll be the same in the States, but in dollars. If so, I know where I’m buying mine from, regardless of it taking a week longer – I’m sure my Nexus One doesn’t mind.

      • sladluk

No, I’ve ordered it from a German Onlineshop for 559€, unlocked.

before it ships. Plus you are not charged until it ships.
My thought is if there is no word by the end of the week, it is not ciming until december. Like last year, i think i femember buying the nexus s last year in dec when it released. Dec 7th i believe

cancel what i said.. I preordered tonight! I found a coupon online and was able to order for 675 no tax and free shipping.. I will probably.end up paying 60 bucks more than than i would have if i waited for it to come stateside. But i will have it earlier than most.
I can cancel before it ships too, just in case something is announced

  • CJ84

I’ve been waiting for this phone since the first rumor about the device. if they delay any i will spam samsung and google’s facebook pages with questions. this was the sole reason i did not buy the galaxy s2. i will still wait for this phone because it has the best software in ics and some killer specs.

if the galaxy nexus is released in europe first that’s rediculous. a U.S. based company (google), and the largest smartphone market in the world should make it the perfect place for launch. this is rediculous.
