Samsung Transform Ultra headed to Sprint; not the best, but probably the cheapest

In the midst of all the Samsung Galaxy Nexus hype comes this not-so-impressive device. This is not quite what Android fans want to hear about. Especially not right now, when many Sprint customers are desperately awaiting news about the availability of the Ice Cream Sandwich device. We do expect this device to come with a very affordable price tag, though.

You may recall seeing a device like this one in the past. That’s because it’s currently available for Boost Mobile, with the off-contract price of $229. Sprint didn’t release any information about the price and availability, but the price is expected to be very low. With Boost offering this smartphone at such a low off-contract price, Sprint’s customers should be getting this one free or almost free with a 2-year commitment.

The specs include a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM 8655 single-core processor, a 3.5 HVGA (320×480) display, 512 GB of RAM, 2 GB of ROM, a 3 MP rear-facing camera and a VGA front-facing camera. Keyboard lovers might also like the fact that this includes a physical slide-out keyboard. Software-wise, the Transform Ultra comes packed with Android 2.3 and Sprint ID customization capabilities.

Even when compared to other physical keyboard devices, Sprint already offers devices like the Samsung Epic 4G and the EVO Shift 4G. Both of these go for $99.99 on a 2-year contract and are better in many ways. We expect Sprint to offer this little guy for a lower price; maybe $50 or less with a 2-year contract?

The device is far from being the best phone out there, but many customers like their affordable smartphones. Many consumers would be perfectly content with what this device has to offer. Let’s remember that 1 GHz processors still run very well. If Sprint happens to hit the right spot, would any of you get the Samsung Transform Ultra? Would you recommend it to certain family members or friends? What would be your ideal price for this device?
