Do I get points for saying FIRST!?

    • AvantGuard

Can I downvote you for asking? :)

      • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

        you sure can!

        • charliethesuperturtle

          i agree!

    • BiGMERF

If you wasnt the go to man when it comes to Nexus news i would give you a minus !!! LMAO

    • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

Only if you give me +1 on my reply!

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

Brave man, I thought Clark might have built in some kind of point devouring black hole for “First” comments.

      • jathak

That would be awesome, yet sort of cruel at the same time.

    • I give a damn

Man who gives a flying fuck about scores? Idiots.

      • WarDrake

        Not you obviously…

    • Luke Haviland

you don’t deserve a down vote for that. i up voted you one.
why cant people say stupid things anymore? for the sake of a cheap laugh,

  • AvantGuard

Love it. It’s things like this that make AndroidAndMe my go-to blog. Nice work, AAM team.

Thanks for the changes and your hard work.. It is greatly appreciated. You continue to improve the environment and that is always a good thing.

  • http://www.healthytiger.com Healthy

do you exclude ‘one hit wonders’? sometimes people make an account just for a single comment, that kind of really lengthens that long tail. or just forgets their password because they comment so infrequently.

seems to me that you want some minimum number of points to be considered in the percentile computation.

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

I think over time it will even out. We can definitely explore cleaning up the inactive accounts at sometime though. What this really allows us to do is identify the power users and work with that entourage to continually improve the algorithm over time. Obviously there are some holes right now, but it’s pretty remarkable that Clark and the team got this up and running from scratch.

We hope that you stick around and see what improvements we add next.

      • sap26

Yeah, holes … like the iHoles who come in after every new iPhone release and comment on EVERY post. You guys can filter that, right?

        • MarkT

And those people so caught up with rankings that they create a second dummy account just to up-rank their main account. They should be made to stand in the corner and use a Nokia 6210 for a month.

        • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

Yes we can filter out all the trolls, but we like to keep an open discussion. We felt the need to allow anonymous comments until all the social sign-on features have been integrated.

    • http://clarklab.net Clark Wimberly

Got it covered. For a percentile to work properly, you need to rank anyone with equal points as a tie. So even if 10k new users sign up and only post one comment, they won’t affect the overall percentile. Anyone with 2 points or less is just considered ‘last place’.

    • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

Wow, I can’t believe people actually do that. Sooooooo laaaaammmeeeeee.

  • sap26

Ooh, maybe one day I can cash in 10,000 points for an And Me pencil eraser?? Joy :)

    • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

The pencil eraser will be 25,000 points. Sorry.

      • sap26

So then you must introduce the new “And Me Bartering”

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

Have you noticed how many devices we have given away this year? I think we might come up with some better perks than a pencil eraser, but maybe we can have some made just for you.

      • sap26

Please, I bet the eraser has a faster processor than my Eris. Yeah, the Droid freakin Eris.

Sent from my Droid freakin Eris using Tapatalk

        • CoatedMoose

          Droid Eris… If only…

Sent from my HTC Magic using 2 cups with a piece of string.

  • MarkT

Last! I knew I fit in somewhere, thanks for confirming that Clark :-)

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

Thanks for signing up. Welcome to the Android family :)

      • MarkT

        Thanks Clark,

Long time reader – (almost) first time poster. I always enjoy reading the US angle on new devices and at the same time slightly confused by your carriers and expensive data. My N1 is headed to one of my kids as soon as the Nexus Prime lands in the UK..but of course being a European pauper stuck in a recession where we all owe each other more money than I can imagine we won’t see an 4G version here for a while in anything other than a trial. /typicalbritishstiffupperlip

  • AceoStar

    Love this!

  • http://technicquill.com Jess Blanchard

I love being important on the internet!

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

      You mean being a nerd?

      • http://www.ndroidgamers.com B2L

It’s great to be a nerd, no shame here.

I think it’s great you guys added this, it’s original and pretty awesome.

  • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

Glad to see this website implement more features. I’m really getting tired of all the “tried and true” blogs of yesteryear (engadget, gizmodo, etc). Y’all do seem to decrease activity on the weekends though, any chance that’ll change anytime soon?

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

Yes, the plan is to keep adding more strong voices to the site and keep generating quality content. A person dedicated to weekends or overnight is being considered.

  • triangle

I like this new system that essentially adds loyalty and clout next to comments. This is definitely my favorite site to discuss android-related topics since most comments don’t include some kind of agenda. (Yes, I said most, but I’m looking at you, Richard Yarrell)

Thanks to Clark, Taylor and the rest of the team for running the site that has one of the best android-related discussions around.

Can I sell some of my points? there a hot commodity … Im just kidding.. haha

    • sap26

But seriously … need a sweet eraser?

      • BiGMERF

If it was an over sized A&M Eraser, id take it !!

        • BiGMERF

here is another post you can downgrade :)

  • aj

Cool guys looking forward to more updates. Like what I see already. :)

  • SliestDragon

Some very cool stuff coming out on this site. Can’t wait to see what else you do to improve this site. :)

  • YNWA

    I bet I am a 45.

    • http://www.technogasms.com Sean Riley

The correct answer, as it always should be, is 42.

  • jeffb34

Great idea to give user something for their good comments.

  • ben dover

I guess no prizes for Richard Yarrell then! :-P

  • Cwalden21

    Nice Work!!

  • http://None CaribGrackle

Really cool, love how it looks, great work all!

  • rfvgyhn

Digging the changes. Are the new point calculations retroactive, or is it only for comments going forward?

    • http://clarklab.net Clark Wimberly

The new point values are for activity moving forward, they won’t affect previous transactions. I doubt we’ll ever push a change that significantly changes someone’s point totals retroactively.

  • Rashad

This point and reward system is unlike any site I have been on, I really like what I am hearing. Keep up the good work!

  • uknowme

    Hmm, this seems promising.

  • sylar

Not really liking where I’m at personally. But cool keep up all the cool stuff guys.

  • sylar

Oh and I think you guys could really use and android app for which to view this site easier. It doesn’t seem to want to render on my new phone.

    • http://androidandme.com Taylor Wimberly

Just curious, are you loading the desktop site or mobile site on your phone? Changes are coming to both next month, but would like to know.

  • finndogg

I get on here everyday just never post ne thing, I need some points lol.

  • Nathan

This system is sweet looks sweet and it looks really nice on my phone and the best part is I’m in the 80 percent tile =)

  • BrandoHD

Time to build some points, lol

  • Rising33

“Android and ME definitely the place to be!”

  • http://youtube.com/user/jawckamoe Marcus

This is so cool! I’m only in the 70th percentile :( haha

  • spookz

I think that this system is gonna be great as most of the contests are US only. This gives people outside the US a chance to win something.

  • PhyzX

And you finally convinced me to make an androidandme account.

    • Angie Strickland

Glad it’s more worthwhile for you :)

  • 4TOPS

The point system is nice but the info i gain from this site is over the top!

    • Angie Strickland

      Awesome :)

  • DRA

i haven’t posted a comment in a long time but i get most of my android news from y’all

  • Zhi Hao

    Yay for new comments system!

One more reason to support A&M!

  • Angie Strickland

Glad everyone is excited :) I’m a little sad because I dropped two in my rank, but at least I know it’s working, haha.

  • http://www.the-wolf.co.uk mabroid

I don’t really get it, then again I’m in the UK and a little slow

  • unfeasible

  • Jeremy Chan

  • spintrex

Does your rank update once a week?

  • mclarensr

I like this point system. Different form the most other websites. Only sad part is, it make it harder to find out the 10K person.

  • ericwilborn

Interesting concept.. almost like a mini-Klout. I like it.

  • Dan13

    I like posting.

  • redraider133

Good to see this new system in place. Hopefully it will stop the bickering amongst certain members that clog articles just with a flame war and nothing about the article they are commenting on.

  • damambt

I’m a bit bummed. I heard this site is awesome and it is, just wish I was allowed to enter the Christmas contest. :(

  • dp_saswat

Well this is a great idea. To give scores for the comments and then do a ranking system according to it. It irritates though when we r nt eligible fr a give away due to low ranking but competition is always good.

+1 to the concept AndroidAndMe :)

  • intel8140

I just need to get more points. :)

  • marty331

Do I get any points for following you on twitter? same name as account name here.

  • golcarcol

This is a brilliant idea, it’s the very similar to the Stack Overflow model, however this is the first I’ve seen implemented on a blogging site. Keep up the awesome job =)

  • PapaLos

I always find myself signing up for sites and forums, introducing myself, and then never showing up again.

But I’m pretty sure this system is what has me coming back everyday. It gives inventive for the lurker to stop lurking. And after time, makes you feel like the hours you spend commenting and reading the blog actually pay off.

Good job, kudos, +1, whatever you prefer.

    • Roderick Cross

I have been on a few sites Missy of the time I forget my password and it’s so difficult to retrieve then I just give up.

  • baldypal

If i’ve left over a dozen comments on over a dozens posts, shouldn’t i have more then 1.7 percentile points by now? I mean 1.7 is what i got for just signing up?

  • thegross1

    Do points ever go away?

  • Chuxter

This is a pretty cool system! :-)
I look forward to future releases/additions/improvements on it.

  • nevsdad

I like it so someone please give me an up vote pleasethanksbye.

  • punshkin

thanks for clarifying, i wasn`t confident about the scores until yet ^^

  • frusak

    Now I get it !

    • mugurelu

Great system, don’t know of it’s originality, but it certainly should be used in all similar websites, forums, etc!
      Nice work!

good idea, but i’ll need more point to enter your contests.. :-’ poor me

  • ethernetgeek

ok, I definitely need to start participating more….

  • priority9

cool implementation of points/clout. Now I just wish I had a few more to enter some of the contests.

  • kimminer1

I am new to this, thanks

  • Scottm

I was wondering how the ranking system worked. Thanks for the explanation!

Now time to get involved and rack up some points!

  • scole76

I like that they are forward thinking here.

  • zyphbear

I am very curious about how you can use Klout to help improve your points. I used to have a Klout account and it didn’t seem very useful. Joining it with AAM accounts would help improve the usefulness of it!

  • Danthes24

So now i get it how i should rack up some rancks..:D

  • DannyBiker

    Oh God, it’s reddit again…

  • justmeandher

    Time to get some points

  • thekaz

wow.. it’s the weekend, so my head cannot wrap itself around the math.. I’ll just keep logging in and contributing meaningful comments, and hope my score keeps going up :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/profile.php?id=583695634&ref=profile rahuly2k7

I got 2 points. I want 5 to enter the contest.. Please help!

  • Fusci

  • gagz

first ever comment, good place to start

    • felixb01

  • arob411

Just joined the other day. I’m not sure how the points work yet but willing to give it a go! Hoping to learn more about Android to pass along to my customers.

  • scores87

    Nice, I want a to rank up!!1

    • felixb01

      Same here!

  • spattigilli

WE will be seeing more healthy comments now on I guess..

  • arminla

I think this is a great idea!!

  • juliescamp

Bout time I learn how to use Droid…..:p thanks!

  • pintobeans

    I need some points

    • felixb01

      Me too!

  • phaet2112

It still encourages post spam- short one line comments are much easier to spatter around than convincing someone to uprank your own nugget.

  • Roderick Cross

I finally figured out how to leave comments

  • Brandy4777

Thanks for the info on how the ranking works. I have to admit that I just found this forum yesterday and I had no idea how it worked. I’m hoping to gain some info here before I choose a tablet for my son’s Christmas gift.

  • yohimbe

How awesome would it be to win all the prizes by default?! Crazy, right!

    • felixb01

      Right! :-)

  • Stefan Sinapov

So i’m colecting points by leaving coments?

  • goodevilgenius

So, I do get some points just for leaving a comment, right?

  • soccerbyyrrd

I had read this before, but I didn’t think it would be as much as an impact until I saw the 25 days of Tegra sweeps… wahoo for rating systems!

    • felixb01

  • neil14n

    How do u get points

    • neil14n

  • gstorrs

    This is a great system.

  • rtsrrt

Ok I’m in! Game on. Asus transformer active.

  • Rachelle shepherd-Dubey

This sounds as complicated as the way they seemed to number buildings at MIT i think it was the cube root of the hypothetical distance to the spherical centre of the Campus calculated by t he area and height of the buildings, Or someone was just trying to impress me…

  • mstavros2

Hi all, new to the site here. looking forward to chatting with you all.

  • richoid

New here also, hope to rank up some points quickly! @richoid77

  • pritams

    lets see…

  • Umarfaruk M

“Android and Me” is the possibilities of wordpress :)

  • VerticalCobra

Finally…a clear explanation of the point/ranking system :)

  • mitchk44

This is useful for trying to get up to those 3 points for the Nexus 7 competition :P

  • jonstle

Glad jaxidian pointed me to this article!

  • celo175

now I know how it works…cool!
