GSM unlocked Samsung Galaxy Nexus now available in the US

nexus-on-sale

We know many of our fellow Americans have been waiting to hear about the Samsung Galaxy Nexus‘ availability. Though Verizon is getting first dibs in the US, many of you are still waiting, hoping that other carriers will be releasing it later on. Many of you have probably contemplated the idea of dumping the deals with the carrier, and purchasing the world’s first Ice Cream Sandwich device unlocked and off-contract (GSM unlocked world version).

This is now possible, and Americans can get their Samsung Galaxy Nexus at full price, from a third party online retailer called Expansys. The bad news is that it will not be cheap. Expansys is selling this bad boy for $749.99 – ouch!

If you happen to have some extra money and can’t wait for carriers to make up their mind, though, this device can be now be shipped straight to your doorstep (Engadget has received confirmation of this). It comes GSM unlocked, with HSPA+ radios, and is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile 3G frequencies. Simply head to Expansys and make your order, if interested!

What do you guys say? Getting this device now, or would you rather get a lower price later on?

If our carriers offer cheaper plan for bring-your-own-phone subscriber, this is a no-brainer.

That said, so much for Verizon’s “EXCLUSIVE” launch.

      WalMart-T-Mobile $30 plan with 4g
      You should check it out

I’d be all over this if I was on AT&T or TMobile!

So, who wants to buy me one so I can make videos of it on my YouTube channel? #wwjoshdew :-)

  • BiGMERF

wait i got mines from a USA company also. http://www.negrielectronics.com and i got it for 50 bucks less. They have since raised the price to 769 (free shipping), but i have a 30 dollar coupon code you can use. which would put it cheaper than expansys.

    • BiGMERF

by the way if they get to 4000 followers on twitter they are going to give 2 away. there twitter is @negrielectronic

      • Christian

I have 4000 followers on twitter. I’ll get them my account for a Nexus.

  • jphasson

Although I’d like to order it now, I think I’ll wait till the second manufactured batch that might have that volume up/down bug sorted out

Does anyone here live in Austin with an HSPA+ device on ATT? What kind of speeds do you get? I’m considering buying an unlocked nexus – but I don’t want to feel like a chump when Verizon finally comes out and boasts insane speeds…

  • Nathan

Wow that way to much for a phone, you can get a tablet or an computer with that money

    • jivemaster

A phone and tablet are completely different, and aren’t really compatible price wise – the phone form factor means there is a smaller space to work with, so tinier components and tighter packing techniques are used. In addition, tablets dont often have voice capabilities or support multiple carriers in the same device.

It’s funny, $750 for a newly released outright phone is the price the rest of the world pays all the time and we don’t mind. And neither should you, because this is a great phone.

      • Eduardo Mauricio Aliaga

i have to agree this phone is great. The price hurts a little but just a little.

        • Nathan

I wasn’t comparing devices price point I’m just saying you can do other things with that much money.

    • Nate B.

One its unlocked and off contract, which makes the price higher this is the notmal price for these types of phones it must be new to you

  • evelio

Still waiting for the 32GB version, I can’t understand why they didn’t put microSD in this little monster

    • Wilson Lara

      Because of the cloud

    • M0nk

Because like Apple, they want to sell the 32GB version at a premium price…
Very annoying and more for the folks that already have a 32GB microSD card to use from other phone.
The cloud is just not there yet when you need it if you travel oversees or live outside US or Europe.

  • charliethesuperturtle

    its a tad bit expensive
i rather wait for quad core or s4s or gs3

    • Paul

You do know just because a phone is quad core does not make it more faster. There are currently no apps on the market to fully use the potential of a quad core phone. Some are barely making the full potential of a dual core phone. Quad core is just a gimmick for now until more apps and programs can use the full quad core experience.

  • Wesley

I almost want to buy it just to have it on T-Mobile before Verizon even releases it. It should have been release unlocked for both AT&T and T-Mo already/first anyway. I hate this deal Google made with Verizon.

  • Mike

I bought it a couple of days ago to use with T-Mobile’s $30/month plan of unlimited data, texts and 100 min of talk. its worth it because I’m saving at least $50 per month compared to a Verizon contract plan if I were to get the Verizon version whose release date btw hasn’t even been officially announced yet

    • rpras

Mike, have you successfully used your GN with this plan? If I am paying that much for the phone, I’d like to be off-contract.

      • Mike

yes I have. In fact I’m using it right now and I’m getting 10-12 mbps down where I live. Before this I had the Nexus One on this same plan so all I had to do was take the sim from the N1 and put it in the Galaxy Nexus

  • rpras

Ouch!! So the carriers are also going to charge proportionally higher, even on contact? This would make me think harder if i want to continue being a Nexus owner or just get another cheaper phone and flash ICS on it.

  • Anthony44

Well I checked the site and was ready to pull the trigger then wooooahhh.
Consider adding taxes this is about $815.00 that’s alot of bananas.
The phone didn’t launch on T-Mobile but can still be had at a nose bleed.
I got the N1 full price the NS full price.
I think this is a sucker move with respect to those that purchased. The phone has a few bugs perhaps more pending flash so what’s the rush.
The price will only go down as others offer it competing for our money.
The logical thought is they want to sell this phone more than we want to purchase it.
shit I hope I stay strong (as I take out bank card) I’m such a nexus fool

    • Roland

I feel you, I love the Nexus, I just think this is high. Must hold out for TMO.

  • kayjay

I’m still holding out for a 32gb T-Mobile version…tho this is a step in the right direction

  • Anthony44

Smart money will wait for price to drop.
I almost purchased adding tax 815 is alot of clams.
I purchased every nexus device day one full price.
I will use discipline and reason.
The phone has a few bugs perhaps more and is pending flash. The price will drop fast as others sell phone and compete for our dollars.
I will stay strong (as I now hold credit card in hand)

  • CJ LaFleur

Im not paying that!!!! Im switching to vzw!

  • http://youtube.com/user/jawckamoe Marcus Nolasco

i’d love to see Google buy Sprint and put an end to all of this nonsense. Sprint’s market cap is about $8B. Google bought Mototola for $12.5B. buying Sprint would give Google an end to end mobile solution offering while also allowing them to continue to partner up with other carriers and hardware manufacturers. some concerns with this strategy would be – would it get by government regulators(FCC) ? what about Sprint’s debt? what about Sprint’s 4G and international position (or lack thereof)? how would partners feel? how would shareholders and management feel? i would just love to see Google do an end-around and have a 100% Google option for customers that want it. Google would be in full control of their mobile destiny controlling OS, software, ecosystem, hardware, and carrier. imagine what Google could do with Sprint with the cash and resources that Google has – they could really expand the footprint and 4G and beyond technology. Sprint would give them a solid foundation at a relative bargain to do this.

i would love to see GOOGLE change the game. what do you think?

    • Anthony44

Sounds like a great discussion, Google should buy a carrier sprint, T-Mobile who knows. I just think this comment is off topic perhaps provide a link for further discussion

  • KC

Not really “available” in the US, they are just importing them from the UK and re-selling it higher. That price includes pound to USD conversion, shipping from the UK and VAT, which is why it is so expensive.

Whenever it is officially made available to US suppliers, the price will be lower due to no VAT inclusion and Sterling Pound to US Dollar conversion.

Get real! I’m sorry, I work in the semi conductor biz and this phone is not worth even close to that. And where in the rest of the world are people paying 750 beans plus for a newly released 16gb android phone?

Have patience, and wait a few months more, and if this phone is anything like the Galaxy S II I’m pretty sure you’ll pay a lot less.

    • Anthony44

Great point, 750 plus tax is just the I’m desperate come rob me without a gun price.
I want this phone but considering
I’m off contract on one line and two more in February ill be a ass to buy now.
I may just grab the galaxy s2 and wait for ics
