HTC DROID Incredible Gingerbread update released… again


Owners of the original DROID Incredible should be pleased to hear that Verizon is again pushing out the Gingerbread update for their phones. The Gingerbread update was initially released in September but was pulled from Verizon’s servers once they realized it was causing a lot of issues for users. Rather than fixing the issues found in the 87.8MB 4.06.605.2 Gingerbread update for the DORID Incredible, HTC has created a 8.6MB 4.08.605.02 patch, which is downloaded and installed at the same time as the system update.

To check if the update is available for your HTC DROID incredible, press Menu > Settings > Software Update > Check Now. The download and install process should take a little less than ten minutes, but you can always connect to a Wi-Fi network to speed up the process.     I received the system update this morning, and the phone says it’s currently at 4.06.605.3. Do you have any idea what it didn’t go to 4.08.605.02? Or is there any way I can manually acquire this patch?

    Droid incredible owner, Update happened around 10 am, caused data corruption on my SD card and phone storage. Lost my Pandora, Angry Birds Seasonal, and Flixster apps. Phone storage now says Low on space: Phone storage space is getting low. I backed-up my Pandora…But now i won’t be able to update until that message is gone.

    this update messed up my phone. A bunch of my apps went missing. Now I perpetually have a “low on space” message so I can’t receive emails or sync.
    -yes I’ve moved all apps to sd card
    -yes all photos etc. are moved to the sd card
    -and yes I’ve already used an app to clear all of my caches.

    The problem still exists, and I’m pissed

    Sorry if this was already asked – but I got tired of waiting several weeks ago and installed CM 7.1 on my phone (which rocks, btw). Will I be prompted by VZ to install the official update?

      No, once you move to a different ROM, you will not get any prompts from Verizon or HTC to download any updates.

    I was notified this morning of the available update. I did not choose to download it at the time. Now the update notification icon is gone, and my phone says my system is up to date. I double checked, it did not update (thank goodness). I wonder if Verizon got more complaints today and yanked the update yet again. Anybody know if they are still pushing it out? Why has my update notification gone away? Clearly I should not update if given the opportunity due to the posted complaints. Any suggestions? Should I just not worry about it?

    Just spoke with HTC. They are aware of the problems with this OTA update on the Droid Incredible. He said that he has been getting calls about it all night. He read me a notice that Verizon had issued saying that they are working with Google, Verizon, and HTC to fix it. And they will be sending out the update tomorrow (11/16/11), over the air.

    last night i updated my phone, and a few hours ago another update was available, however it says low space so i freed up space and now the update is gone and when i manually update it says that the phone is up to date

      Same here, I have plenty of memory on the phone too. I even tried the forced checkin, *#*#2432546#*#* to no avail. I had Gingerbread already and the smaller 4.08.605.02 is the one that gave me the issue.

      Same thing for me! Does anyone know where to get the 8.6MB patch to install it manually? I’m so pissed that the speech to text doesn’t work anymore – I used it multiple times every day!

    Same thing! I updated a couple hours ago, then another software update was available, but because of not having enough space, I freed up some space and then the update was gone…how do I get it back?? My phone is telling me the system is up to date?

    Got the update a couple of days ago. A bunch of my apps went missing. Now I perpetually have a “low on space” message so I can’t receive emails, SMS or sync. Today, it said I had another system update and when I clicked it, it started to update but then told me I didn’t have enough room to complete the update as I was “low on space”. But how can that be when the first update from two days ago wiped out half of my applications. So I deleted some more applications, looked for the update received today and my phone says I am up to date. HTC and Verizon are making want to purchase a new phone more and more which I was trying to hold out a little bit long on.

    Same thing, out of space, I cleared some space, then update was gone. Powered off phone, pulled battery. Still no update.

    I got the update over night. Went to install it this morning and it said I didn’t have enough space. Then I couldn’t figure out how to get back to installing the update. I went to the local Verizon store this morning. The guy tried a few things and then told me I needed to do a hard reset on my phone to get the update to download again.

    Looks like I have something to do this afternoon :(

    What a mess. I got the second update this morning, but it failed because it said there was not enough space. The newest update is supposed to address the low space issue, but the low space issue keeps it from updating. Now I can’t seem to get the update to be pushed to me again. I called HTC and they said I just have to wait. They said it could happen today, or it could be as long as 14 days. Grrrr….

      de, this exact same thing happened. This is crazy. I have the original Incredible, and love it. These updates shouldn’t take so long!

    I called verizon and the lady told me i have to do a hard reset. I told her that the phone worked fine before the update. she told me also that the version should be 4.08.605.3 I have 4.06.605.3. she told me to leave the battery out for 20 min. Did that and still did not work. came home and emptied the internal storage down to leave 5GIG of open space on the phone and more than 80% of the SD card available. I will wait to see if the update shows up in the morning because i get my phone is up to date when i check for updates.

    Level 2 tech support did not have a fix either. It seemed like they were more interested in selling me a new 4G phone instead of fixing the one I already have that worked just fine 3 days ago when the memory was almost maxed out. Now the memory is almost empty and it is still showing “Low on space” phone storage is getting low.

    I get emails and also get app updates so i will just wait to see what kind of fix they come out with.

    I backed up everything on my phone and did a hard reset. Within minutes of activating my phone again it prompted me to install the update. I installed it and then restored all my stuff and now it works great.

    I accepted the update last week and it ruined my phone. It did something to the SD card. I had to bring it to Verizon where they replaced my SD card and had to replace my entire phone (Droid Incredible). I’m afraid to accept the update again so I keep delaying it.

    I can’t get my Droid Incredible to finish installing the update!! I’m still on the 4.06.605.2 version of the software. It keeps trying again and again… Verizon tech support can’t help, and neither can the people at the Verizon store. They say the only way to fix it is to do a hard reset of the phone, or to download the software on the computer and manually install it to my phone. However, I can’t find a place where I can download the software. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!!
