Verizon confirms Droid RAZR release date, improved tiered data plans

Recent rumors seem to come from fairly good sources, but we’ve been raising our eyebrows at what Verizon seems to be cooking for the Motorola Droid RAZR. It’s been speculated that this super-thin device will be released on 11-11-11, and to make things even more ridiculous, at 11:11 am.

Turns out we were not being lied to. Verizon has decided to proceed with this release date and time. This Friday, Verizon stores will be opening at 11:11 am. According to Verizon, this is to celebrate the launch of the original Motorola Droid.

There is other news on the table, though, and it’s much more exciting. If you’ve been worried about data caps, you’ll probably be able to breathe easy soon. Verizon is raising the data cap for its tiered data plans. Users will be getting twice the gigabytes previously promised.

Starting November 8 (tomorrow), new and existing customers will get twice the data. Currently, there are three plans available: $30 for 2 GB, $50 for 5 GB and $80 for 10 GB. These limits will respectively be raised to 4, 10 and 20 GB. Pretty neat, right?

Also, if you happen to be a light user, there’s a new plan for you. This one is only $20, but it only gives you 300 MB of data per month.

Current users who would like to take advantage of this simply need to make the changes online or with customer service.

4 GB is not as bad for the $30 tiered-data plan. Many users might be able to skip the higher data plans now (some might even be content with the 300 MB plan), so go ahead and get ready to save some bucks! Who will be taking advantage of this new data plan? Is 4 GB enough for you, or do you still need more? How about 300 MB? Anyone getting the Droid RAZR this Friday?
