The Verizon HTC Rezound has been on the market for a few days now, but we’ve finally received our demo unit and have had a few hours to play around with it. We plan on doing a detailed review of the device a bit further down the road, but we thought we’d share some of the phone’s highlights for now and let you know what our first impressions are.
You’ve already seen the Rezound unboxing video, so we’ll jump straight to the phone. The Rezound features a gorgeous 4.3-inch 720p HD display which dominates the front of the phone. It’s not the brightest or most color saturated display we have seen (Samsung’s latest Galaxy S II phones own that crown), but it’s extremely clear and features some pretty decent viewing angles. While the display is a pleasure to look at, some may find it a bit annoying that UI elements of the applications you typically enjoy are slightly smaller due to the increased pixel density.
The body of the Rezound is made up of a soft-touch rubber coating along the back and side and features a nice texture which gives the phone a nice feel. The bevel around the screen is made of a glossy dark gray plastic which is very susceptible to finger prints. While the phone feels good in the hand, it lacks that bit of extra weight and solid construction feel we have been used to with HTC’s aluminum unibody handset shells.
One the performance side, the HTC Rezound is certainly a crowd pleaser. The phone’s 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S3 processor paired with 1 GB of RAM make the Rezound one of the most powerful Android phones on the market. The phone easily handled the 3D games we threw at it including Wind-up Knight and Dungeon Defenders. It was even able to pull in a benchmark score of 5311 in AnTuTu – putting it on par with the Samsung Galaxy S II.

Our first few hours with the HTC Rezound have been great and we’re looking forward to pushing the device to its limits. We still need to test out the camera, Beats Audio (our demo unit didn’t come preloaded with any music) and battery life, so stay tuned for our full review. If you’re still not sure if the HTC Rezound is the right phone for you, we suggest you go down to your local Verizon store and try it. From what we’ve seen so far, you certainly won’t be disappointed.
