Sony LT28at passes Bluetooth SIG, HD display and 13 MP camera in tow

sony Image via: Ian Muttoo via Creative Commons

Little is known about the Sony Ericsson LT28at beyond a previous rumor that suggested the LT28at will feature a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor (unknown make). The LT28at is back and has made its way through the Bluetooth SIG process. The SIG showing indicates this Xperia superphone is going to be a beast, featuring a 4.55″ 720P HD “Reality Display”, 720P front-facing camera, and a whopping 13 megapixel rear camera.

The LT28at also has LTE capability on AT&Ts super-fast 4G LTE network. Though AT&T’s LTE technology is only available in a handful of locations, if the speeds experienced in these locales hold, AT&T’s network will be even faster than Verizon’s LTE network, which has been dubbed the fastest cellular network in the country by PCMag.

Signs are pointing toward an unveiling at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in early January, so we’re hoping we’ll be able to get some hands-on time with the device in a few weeks. Given Sony’s full commitment to device updates (they’re the only company who have outlined plans that satisfy the Update Alliance’s goals) as well as the development community, we’re certainly excited about the upcoming LT28at smartphone if the rumored spec sheet holds up.

We’ll be sure to bring you coverage of the LT28at in a few weeks if the device makes an appearance at CES. Anyone else out there excited for this device?

Do we think stock ics or timescape overlay?

    • http://www.anthonydomanico.com Anthony Domanico

It will probably have the overlay, but should be easy to root. :)

Sony (ex) Ericcsson takes huge steps on it´s way to the Android King lately

    • damambt

Likely to be a custom oem build

    • King Chris Scott

you gotta love the specs on this phone tho

    • scores87

timescape is not intrusive so don’t worry about that

  • damambt

Sony has dedicated themselves to building better Android handsets. Im definitely looking forward to seeing the final product and truly considering their devices on my next purchase! Hooray for SONY!

    • booyootoo

Couldn’t agree with you more. Just hoping they will release it fast, while the specs are good. Cause quad core processors will be making their way in Q1/Q2 right?

I don’t think they can afford to release it past Q1, cause the competion is killing.

    • ArticulateFool

I am eager to see their commitment in action as well.

    • stenzor

The competition is really heating up in the Android device market.. which means awesome devices for us consumers!

    • lxgeorge

I wish they would make their custom skin look as pretty as the PS3 one – or at least the launcher anyway. I feel like they could do much more with it, and hopefully for this phone they have!

    • http://genesischess.com/ MJM128

The camera that is in that phone is one of the best smartphone cameras I’ve ever seen. I’m excited to get my hands on this phone.

    • kazahani

To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of Sony products generally speaking. They make all their power cords and connectors proprietary, so you have to order all replacement parts from Sony. And Memory Stick? WTF??

However they have been making some excellent Android devices lately, such as Xperia Arc, and I am thrilled that they are actaully following through on their update promises. I will own a Sony Android phone at some point.

    • http://www.desean.net desean

i can’t wait to see this phone for myself!

  • zyphbear

These are some pretty nice specs, I wonder if it will be the first device to no longer carry the Ericsson name. Would also be nice to know what version of OS will be on here to start, maybe ICS? (Which may also show what Sony’s plans are for how much they will change ICS with a skin too)

    • stenzor

If they’re unveiling it in 2012 it better have ICS, or else consumers may be underwhelmed. Hopefully they can work fast to develop their custom skin in time

  • dpleus

Sony knows their electronics, and I hope this winds up being an excellent device. And I so would like to get excited about this phone, but it will probably be obsolete by the time I’m up for a new phone next October.

Sony, please be a good kid and fight for your chance to make a Galaxy Xperia next year.

    • damambt

      Nexus Xperia?
      Nexus X?
      NEXPERIA?

      • ags29

Time for Galaxy Nexus owners to start regretting their purchase :-P

        • Jorge Eslava

You never regret a Nexus purchase =)

        • Richard Yarrell

Definitely no reason to REGRET the Galaxy Nexus it is the KING of android and has nothing to prove to NO SMARTPHONE. Any device from this day forward will be PLAYING CATCH UP to the King of android….The Google Galaxy Nexus on Verizon…

      • zerosix

      • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

SE would make a kick ass Nexus

  • amgala

AT&T’s recent LTE speed tests showed about 13 mbps down. I’m getting 16 mbps down with VZW LTE (plus VZW LTE has a couple of million other users taking bandwidth, AT&T’s probably only has a relative handful of testers). So, I don’t really buy the hype about AT&T’s network being faster. But we’ll see.

    • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

for real, ATT pretty much hogs Xperia phones in USA

  • Minesh Rai

According to Bluetooth SIG and XperiaBlog, the device will be equipped with 4.55-inch Reality Display with 720x1280p resolution, 1.5GHz dual-core chipset, 13-megapixel back-illuminated sensor camera with LED flash, 720p front facing camera, LTE support, 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, dual-microphones………

  • Thomas Biard

13 megapixel camera? I hope the censor is up to snuff because as we found out from the first batch of phones to have 8MP, it takes more than just pixels to make a good picture. Sony typically is at the front of that battle so I look forward to trying out the camera and the phone.
Both sound like beasts; both sound like fun.

    • azswift

Maybe it’s a Sony part. They can definitely make nice 16mega pixel Exmor point and shoot cameras. If some portion of that technology makes this phone we’ll see great low-light pictures.

  • https://plus.google.com/109600738460265587799/posts Lewis McGeary

Sounds promising, I haven’t had a Sony Ericsson device in a while, but my k800 with 3 mega-pixel camera took great photos, hope they make good use of the 13!

  • Billy

Sony said we were doubling down on Android … is this the first result. Looking forward to it!

  • rutgers2k

Sounds good, hopefully sony gets rid of hardware buttons.

  • Rgbarret

Can’t wait to see more of these super-phones coming out.

  • Martjn2

soo psyched in for ces and mwc. soo many handsets soo much awesomness!

I think the only thing that sucks about this phone is the ATT part. Other then that looks promising! :)

After my old SONY K550i ( ah! those days)…It’s time for SONY again…uh…..may be! We’ll have to wait and see….

  • schofieldesign

I would like to give this phone and Sony a try. There’s something about their phones that I never really liked, like their experia line just never really crossed my mind. But with these specs i’m thinking I’ll have to give this one a whirl

  • ramenchef

I wonder what SoC they’ll use. I would guess an S4 snapdragon at this point.

  • staryoshi

I’m not interested in the phone directly, but I am interested in the hardware and its performance :)

  • Hall Lo

Sounds attractive. If Sony can get a good design for this fone (since Sony has a good design team I believe, for instance, VAIO), this will be my next fone for sure ;)

    • azswift

That’s why I’m surprised we didn’t see a picture. With so much talk about the design of the new Nexus phone you’d think Sony would want to grab back some of the buzz, even if it’s just a mock-up.

  • Steven Nutt

With specs like that and Sony’s current commitment to updates, I may end up going with Sony for my next upgrade (March sometime).

Especially if it has no physical buttons.

  • coryteague

anybody else out there like having a great camera on your phon? that is why I buy certain phones.

  • Alexander drzfr3shboialex

Still Sony Ericsson devices til Mid next yr. Should hopefully hear more of Sony’s own plans at ces or mwc.

This phone sounds sweet. Hopefully they have something good to show at mwc too

Although this device sounds really good on paper for some reason Sony Ericsson name doesn’t give me too much confidence. Their phones so far have been mediocre. I hope this changes that because I use many other sony products and they are very good.

  • Louis A

Sonnny, you don’t need a 13MP sensor to pull out a great picture. I see the 13MP as just a marketing gimmick. They just following the same track of some of their dslr / mirrorless / micro four thirds camera; huge unneeded sensor on a small camera. Huge unneeded 13MP sensor on a phone!

    • Meach

Look at some of the sample shots of this camera floating around other Android sites. 13mp or not, that thing takes awesome shots.

  • Marc’us H.

It’s quite easy to get hard off of specs, but I really want to see what Sony does with ICS, and if it’s going to be user friendly enough for me to even like it. It would be neat if they used some sort of UI similar to their new Vita handheld system.

  • cxandroid

    Hopefully it’s sexy.

  • Nathan D.

An increase in choices is great, unfortunately this won’t necessarily translate into a decrease in prices due to competition.

The mobile industry is the only technology industry I can think of on the top of my head where an increase in competition does not lead to decreased prices on phones. Probably due to price fixing with carrier agreements.

These phones are not worth 500-700 dollars.

  • http://www.infotainmentempire.com pekosROB

13 MP sounds great… wonder how the camera’s real specs will hold up.

  • christiaangombert

I don’t see any advantage to the 13mp camera, as long as they don’t upgrade the lens of the camera. The lens is just to small so you will get noise every time you take a picture. 13mp photo’s will also be a hard job for the gpu to swipe true in the gallery app.

  • http://aboyandhistv.blogspot.com mvndaai

I love 4.5″ displays and awesome cameras. This could be a great phone for big handed people like me, who don’t like to carry an extra camera.

  • vid500

Now Sony has a chance to make great devices. The specs are great. Can’t wait to see it in acton. But the 13MP camera is a little over the top, I do not understand why do they still wont to impress people with the MP. For the lenses that are build into the devices 5-8MP are more then enough, this additional 5MP do not make better photos, just larger. So a half less space on the mamory.
